Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
*****The owner has contacted me and she will be checking us out here on DK! More info to follow***As many of you know we have talked for YEARS about having a DK meet up where we could all bring our doodles. It just has never happened and although some of us are meeting this year to go on a Doodle Lovers Cruise - the doods are not welcome - LOL.
WELL DO I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS but I need your feedback NOW. How many people would SERIOUSLY (like in use your vacation, spend the money, etc) be open to taking your dogs to a Camp where they are off leash (unless taking part is some special training classes) to hike, do yoga, swim, canoe, sleep in your cabin with you?
That is right - I have found the perfect place and have sent them a message asking if they would accomodate a special "group" - US!!!! We would need 50 people at that is the max per camp session (4 days). I don't know the full cost per person yet but am finding out. If we couldn't get 50 people perhaps we could just all sign up for a session together, knowing that other - non doodle dogs would be there too.
I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK NOW - as I have contacted the owners. Once I hear back from you - I'll share the website so that you can all take a look
From their website
Take your dog on a 4-day weekend retreat to the beautiful relaxing countryside. Enjoy the company of other dogs and dog lovers, immerse yourselves in nature, celebrate the full free expression of your dog's dogness, and learn to think like a dog. You and your pooch will love it!
Each camp session offers dogs and their people a 4-day weekend retreat organized to be fun, satisfying, relaxing, and educational. The schedule is planned to keep the dogs active and participatory. Presentations and workshops teach campers how to take the best care of their dog. Sports and athletic activities led by experts engage the dogs and help campers understand how to maximize their dog's abilities. Participation in activities is optional, and some campers may choose to simply relax by the lake with their dogs.

Ricki isn't on right now...so I volunteer her :) LOL
You are in SOOOOO much trouble right now!!!!
LOL
Yes I looked it up and they have the following rule:
We do not allow choke/chain or prong collars at camp, as they are not in keeping with our philosophy and can also be dangerous during play.
This would keep me away because I don't want to completely toss away my dogs' training for 4 days.
Camp is off leash unless you are taking same training classes. So I'd think people could give them up for 4 days but I don't use them (Stuart might need one though - lol).
At some point I might want to leash my dog, I imagine. Plus I don't want noncompliance with commands and no way to reinforce something or correct bad behavior. 4 days of freedom with no accountability would do damage to my dogs obedience (which is going downhill as it is because I haven't worked them in a long time).
Humph! Thanks Adina. Not that mine really need the prongs, I think, but that is what we are used to. And who would leave them on during play, not me I can assure you.
Now if I could get a direct flight to somewhere near where one of you is driving from that could work : )
Hendersonville, NC is four hours from where I live. If you can fly into Raleigh/Durham I can pick you up at the airport and you can stay the night at my house, coming and going. Maybe someone else that is driving up can meet you at my house? Doris, where are you and Knox??
I'm joining this late, but when I saw that this was in NC, I thought "YIPPEE! I get to see Linda!" Camp or no camp, Duke student or not, you haven't seen the last of me!!
I certainly hope not!!
After looking at the cost of the camp options I think, East Coast West Coast and somewhere in the middle Doodle Romps would suit most of us a little better.
:o)
