Jack, I don't think it's behavioral. This is a horrible year for inhalant allergies, and since we know that Cooper has Atopy, I think this is just a worse than usual flare, coupled with the attempt to lower his Temaril dosage.
I've had good luck with OTC cortisone sprays for itchy feet. Temporary, but it does seem to help.
A couple of years back, JD had a bad flare that mainly involved his feet, and his dermatologist gave me topical meds for them. Two solutions, KetoChlor and Genesis, they had to be mixed together and applied directly to the feet. A pain in the neck, but it did work well, and I was glad not to have to give him oral meds, this is so much less invasive, with no side-effects.
I'm so sorry Cooper is having such a bad flare, it's awful to see them suffering this much. I hope you can find some relief for him and for yourself!
Apple Cider Vinegar is hokum as a cure-all. It's just a very acidic solution. It won't do a thing for itching from a histamine response. We've had several discussions here about it.
I agree with Karen entirely. And in this circumstance I don't see any benefit at all.
My lab has terrible environmental allergies and he does this. I have found the most effective thing from the vet is neopredef powder.
