Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was wondering what the average life span of the doodle is. I have heard that they do live longer than some other breeds. Who has the oldest doodle here so far?

Right now I also have a 15 yr old lab/shepx we got from the pound, her sister I originally adopted too but had to rehome is still going too. They have cataracts, not totally blind yet, and decreased hearing too. Other than that everyone is amazed when I tell them they are 15. They started on the cheapest dog food at the store. They were farm dogs. Outside or in the barn, rarely in the house. Ours has been a house dog since we moved to the city though. I have been supplementing with joint complex and vitamin mix for her shedding for a few years on and off. Now I have started her on meloxicam for her joints. It has really helped.
The vet said she could have two to three years left in her. But said really they aren't generally lasting 15 yrs for her type.
I can see if my dood gets all the new knowledge of foods and excercise and stimulation that I have gotten. As well as the heritage of his pure bred parents and genetic testing it could be foreseeable.

Meet Chewie's GREAT Grandmother, Ellie. She is the cafe-coloured labradoodle on the left.

Ellie is 17 years old. Very much alive and well.

Wow Kimmy, how about that! They are all beautiful!

OMD what a great picture!  Wow, seventeen years, that is soooo wonderful!  Beautiful Doodles:)  Great Grandma looks really good and so proud!

This is the greatest picture. Makes me smile.

Really amazing. Great photo.

OMD How wonderful!!!!    I love this photo!       This is a topic I really hate to contemplate....I'd love to believe 17-20....and even that isn't enough....

I was actually just looking this info up myself recently. It's not something I like to think about, but my co-worker has an 8.5 year old Airedale that was diagnosed with a form of cancer that doesn't give him much longer to live ( VERY sad. He is a beautiful dog). She told me their life expectancy is 10-12 years, which obviously got me thinking about Duncan. A very broad range based on what I have read is 12 - 15 years, but I will be following this post to see what senior doodles we have :).

DH and I were discussing last night.  I hope their span is more like 30 years ;) lol

DH's parents have an 11 year old labradoodle that has hip dysplasia, but she's still doing well.  She's also had some tumors - 1 bout of cancer, but she's still here!

Love the pic of Chewie's great grandma.  So wonderful!
