Hi Kathy, if you have not already read our excellent guidelines on What to Look for in a Breeder, please do, and take it to heart. Use this as a check list for any breeder you consider, and run away from those who cannot measure up.
If you are looking for specific breeder recommendations, those are not allowed here in the public forum. People will have to send you a friend request and private message you.
thanks i will check, but yes i am looking for specific breeders. i live near lancaster and there are a ton there, but i am not hearing great things.
No, you are smack in the middle of puppy mill country. http://www.pennlive.com/news/2015/12/better_at_hiding_it_the_puppy....
That's one reason it is so important to read the guidelines, so you know what to look for, and what to look out for.
The guidelines give places to look at breeder lists. So once you know what to look for then you can look at those lists of different breeders in your vicinity and compare those breeders to our guidelines to help you narrow your search. Then when you've checked out the websites of a few and have a handful of breeders you are considering you can come here and ask what do you think of THESE 4 breeders -- any warnings or recommendations?
**oh and the breeder that others have mentioned has an excellent reputation is in the midwest...are you willing to fly to get your puppy?
Kathy, I live near Scranton, Pa and we went to Avila Pa - about 6 hrs away. I sent you a friend request to give you the name. We were very pleased and I know she has some pups now that are available since I keep in touch through facebook. some of her dogs are even being trained as service dogs. she is pricey though. I know of another too, that is more reasonable, but she only had cream color and we wanted brown, but she seemed good too.
A reputable breeder will also have his/her own website, and does not advertise puppies for sale on ad sites like PuppyFind or Next Days Pets. Stay away from those. Stay away from broker sites, too. Basically, stay away from any site that shows multiple breeds from multiple breeders. Doing internet searches for "goldendoodles PA" is going to bring up things like this: https://purebredbreeders.com/. Avoid them like the plague. The pictures of the puppies may be cute, but I assure you that pictures of their mothers and their living conditions are not.
A good place to start is GANA's website: http://goldendoodleassociation.com/dogtrack/guest/memberbreeders.aspx
You are about 9 hours from my breeder in MI. She is one of the most highly recommended here. Message me if you are willing to drive that far.
