I'm far from an expert, but I did consult with my Vet and a canine nutritionist when I moved my Doodle to home cooking due to IBS. Based on their advice, I would be concerned about a diet that only includes steak....many of the nutrients their bodies need to be healthy are not provided by the steak alone. Also, what are the ingredients in the mince you're using? Is it meat only (and what kind) or does it also include other ingredients? I would definitely join the Food Group. There are quite a few of us who have dogs with IBS or other digestive issues, and this group has been so helpful.
Hi Jane,
I only give Ozzie 100% beef steak - he is gaining weight now - but the Vet wants him to start having carbs, she did suggest he starts on mash potato but he wont eat anything like that, also she put him on supplements but these go straight through him,he is going to see her next week. It;'s ok saying he must have something other than meat to eat but have you ever tried getting a dog to eat something he doesn't want to.I am very concerned about him - i'm just pleased he's eating and it's staying inside him,
I am going to join the food group and hopefully Ozzie will be able to eat something other than mince. Thanks I'll keep in tough.Lesley.
I'm sure you've tried mixing the carbs (rice or potato) with the meat. You may have to start with just a little and then keep increasing until he gets used to it. That's the approach I had to take with veggies, and now Guinness loves the vegetables in his food. I'm glad you're joining the Food Group!
If you're in the UK, look up Landywoods. They deliver frozen meat to your door and Best Mince Beef is about 48p per Pound packet. It's for dog food - so it won't look exactly like your supermarket pack but the doods LOVE it and it's very affordable.

Welly is also intollerant to poultry - so we buy the lamb and the beef.
Thanks for the information re Landywoods, have just checked their web site - they seem to know quite a lot.
I have left them an e-mail re delivery to suffolk.
Can you tell me what you feed Welly on - Ozzie hasn;'t eaten again today and his tummy is rumbling like a steam train, he's bright and running around eager to play but not hungry.I just don't know what to tempt him with.
Thanks Lesley.
