Well, Luxie really did it this time!! Some of you may remember our previous sock eating episode, when we ended up inducing vomiting with hydrogen peroxide when she was just a litttle pup. Well, since then, I have been diligent about keeping her away from laundry, and treating for rapidly dropping valued goods. Unfortunately when you add in to the equation a trip away from home (to take my daughter to college!), a teenage boy with stinky socks, and no mom to supervise, the outcome was not good. Our first night home we woke up to Luxie vomiting in her crate, and after several attempts, up came a sock! Phew, right?? No... The vomiting and dry heaves kept up, so off we went to the emergency vet at 4:45 am. Of course the x-ray showed a "foreign body" (not too foreign, I was sure) and an obstruction  :(  Well, after removing TWO more boys socks and two days to recover, she's home. I feel terrible because she is clearly miserable. I don't know how we're going to do two weeks in that miserable cone, and I'm sure at the end of this she will need to be shaved down because she is impossible to brush right now. The worst part is that the vet said dogs don't learn from this and she will probably always be a sock eater! Luckily I bought the Petplan insurance, so hopefully that will help alleviate some of the financial pain. I just wish she didn't have to go through the physical pain! Poor Luxie :(

Poor girl. Rosco who has NEVER been into 'laundry' recently has urped up and/or vomited a few socks. So ODD! Woke up to a vomiting dog a few mornings ago and found a stinky, orange/yellow/mustard colored pile of cloth that I thought was a cleaning rag. Nope...an adult ankle sock and a baby sock. Where this new habit has come from I have no idea. Socks must have had baby urp up on them is my best guess.
I hope for your's and Rosco's sake this doesn't become habit!! It's a hard one to break :(
Poor Luxie! Hope she's feeling better soon!
Sorry to hear of your sock problems, Luxie. They sure go down easier than they come up!! We hope you are feeling frisky again real soon!!!
Get better soon Lexie! I like socks too but I just chew them up and spit them out....
Luv your friend
Lady Peri
Both Gaston and Rosie have this "addiction" despite doing whatever necessary to keep them from their "fix". We've even gone so far as to put hook and eyes on the outside of the kid's doors so that when they aren't home their things are safe!

Gratefully BOTH of them "chuck" up their snacks consistently and without any issue. On a funny note...we were clearing out the right side of our property....doing pre-fall cleanup and counted..................9 yes NINE pairs of Ali's VICTORIA SECRETS panties! All "recycled" as only a doodle can do! Rosie has the pantie fetish......Gaston prefers smelly 11 year old socks.

Maybe we've gotten lucky because both panties and socks are tiny are our doodles are big and can "chuck" them easily but you'd think they'd learn............... *head shake*

Sure hope Luxie feels better soon! and you too :(
Oh no, poor Luxie. I hope she feels better ASAP!
Hope Luxie is feeling better soon!
Oh, poor Luxie, hope your feeling better soon.
Oh my, poor Lexie, I am just terrified of them swallowing socks etc...Glad to hear that you have pet insurance, at least that will help finacially...When I do laundry, I try to make sure that the dogs are not near the laundry room with me. We do not have kids here, but Oliver loves the dryer sheets too...Before I take clothes out of the dryer I remove them and get rid of them. I have caught Oliver with a sock or two, so now I try to watch, but darn, they can be so fast...Hugs to you and Lexie...
sry, I meant Luxie...
oh poor little Luxie :(
Mochi swallowed a sock before and I used hydrogen peroxide (thanks for your information) so it saved Mochi once.
if I were you, I might try soaking socks in chili water or something bitter and leave them on floors on purpose, Luxie will get bad experience right away when she put them in her mouth, then she'll probably disliking socks and eventually stops eating them.
Mochi used to eat whatever he saw (except socks), our trainer taught us: "just don't leave stuff on floors or wherever he can reach them". I didn't like that, that's not a long term solution.
Hopefully you'll find a way to stop Luxie from eating more socks.
poor little girl. Give her lots of kisses for us.
