Poor Nico has matting on the top of his head that we can never seem to stay ahead of as he spends more time outdoors this spring. Anyone have tips on both preventing and then 'treating' matting? Our doodles are such lovely creatures..but ohh that hair, sometimes!!!
One thing that seems to work for me is to spread the hair apart with your fingers. Almost like pulling apart Velcro. With my guy this separates the hair and works great , although it is very tedious and time consuming.
I use Cowboy Magic shampoo, Pantene conditioner, and Cowboy Magic Detangler for the bad mats. I use Horse mane and Tail Spray-in Conditioner for all over brushing. I use a Les Poochs brush and a metal comb. These products really do help me work with Ned's fur. I brush Ned as often as I can because he mats. If I can't do a thorough brushing, I hit his problem areas daily. I also spritz him with water and "scrunch" his fur when I am done brushing in order to let the fur reform in its little "dreads." Different doodles have entirely different fur or combinations of fur. Ned's coat is curly fleece. I learned all of this in the grooming group. You may want to join and pose your questions there.
