Today was the first time in a few months that I thought DerbyDoodle actually was making some more progress...and not resisting it.Maybe it was because she was so happy The Blackhawks brought back the Stanley Cup to Chicago...we will never know....( was that subtle/what)
In the beginning she showed so much promise..sleeping thru the night immediately, staying in her crate in the kitchen vs. in our bdrm about 10 days after she arrived....potty trained in 3 mo..then we came back to Chicago...and she just hit a wall...and kind of became a very excitable puppy with a dominant attitude.
This morning after much urging from my daughter ( a golden mom) to bring out the water bottle for her jumping..I responded & used it. Today it registered ..DerbyDoodle understood the message...she REALLY disliked it..barking & snapping at times.. directed at the bottle not at me(?)....but she learned to back off and just get in a down position vs. jumping to get my attention. I was very proud of her, and very encouraged to see what more maturity & Boot Camp might produce. (She is 10 days shy of 6 mo.)
I don't consider teenager until 7 months at the earliest through 18-24omrhs. Is she that old already? Time flies.
I'm thinking good day in the life of a baby puppy. Be patient :)
Rodney, I hope you are going to enroll Derby in additional puppy obedience right away. If you don't follow through with what was started in Boot Camp, she will regress to what was comfortable to her in your home. It is great that you're' seeing progress!!!!! Stay strong and patient AND consistent!!
Oh, for sure follow up..classes
Hoping to find a good class close by...so far one we went to had 3 huge dogs & her....she is only about 10 lbs @ 5.5 mo...I was more intimidated than she possibly. The handlers/owners were teens
Her boot camp doesn't start for 2 wks
Patience, yes, we really love her but she is a push your buttons kind of pooch...so far!
