First, poor Luca suffered a broken tail and eventually had to have part of it surgically removed as the result of a visit to the groomer. :(

Then I saw this story & video about a groomer beating and abusing dogs she was being paid to groom:

Now, the worst story yet: A dog who died after being thrown against a wall by a groomer at the vet's office!!!!

I'm afraid to leave JD anywhere at this point.

What I can't figure out is why anyone who could do things like this to a helpless dog chose a profession where they spend their days working with dogs.

You are too cute!  I want a picture of you on your plastic stool at the groomers!  :>)

I wonder if JD doesn't like the running water/faucet sound.

He hates water period. He won't set a foot outdoors when it's raining, hates swimming, etc.

The other thing I think may be a problem is that they lift him into the tub, it's attached to a wall, and he hates being lifted. He still wants to jump on and off the grooming table rather than letting them help him, even with the ruptured disc in his back. :(

Oh JD! It's ok to accept help once in a while :(

maybe he should have stairs...

I bought some for my room when he couldn't get onto my bed last year. If I so much as point them out to him, he leaves the room.

I love him madly, but he would have beaten Mahatma Gandhi in the passive resistance department.

(PS: He has since figured out how to get onto my bed using his memory foam bed as a springboard. I think the acupuncture and laser therapy have helped, too)

OMD lol he leaves the room!  He's quite hilarious!  I'm glad the acu and laser are helping him :)

Thanks, Joanna. Yes, he's a very funny, quirky dog. :)

This is just horrible!  I don't understand either why somebody who would hurt a dog would go into that business.

I've been grooming Trav at home lately, and my lack of skill shows, but he's safe and doesn't care at all about how he looks.

I am just sick every time I hear of an innocent animal being abused or neglected in any way, shape or form.  What kind of a person does this...there are just no words!

Those stories are disgusting.  I just sent a little thank you to Halas' groomer.  She always treats him like a king.  I can tell she genuinely loves grooming.  She was a full-time groomer, but switched careers in order to get health insurance and other benefits.  Yet she still grooms on the weekends, carefully selecting which doggies she wants to spend her free time with.  I'm glad Halas is one of those doggies.

Oh no!  That's so terrible.

I'm so glad Luna is easy to groom and I can do it myself.

This reminds me of stories about teachers who don't like children... why are you a teacher if you don't like kids?!  Why are you a dog groomer if you don't love dogs enough to treat them well!?

If it's just a matter of bathing him, bring him down here.  I have all the equipment.  Or if you want a referral for a first-rate groomer who is a rescue advocate herself, I can give you that as well.  She is in the the west loop, so you'd have to drive a bit.  But maybe it would be nice for you to drop off JD and spend some time downtown.
