Gavin and I had another close call last week (we were almost hit by a car while walking).  The whole experience left me pretty shook up and I had to stop for a while and catch my breath before an emotional walk home.  Tonight we were out walking and just happened to revisit the corner for the first time since the incident.  I would not have even thought of it, but Gavin who had 3/4 of his leash for casual sniffing purposes, came right to my side and walked at perfect heel without instruction, checking my face every few seconds.  This went on for half a block, then he went back to his sniffing.  Did he remember?

One time when he was young, I tried to get him to jump into the back of my SUV and being a bit over-zealous he jumped too high and hit his head.  He now goes through the side door as he flat out refuses to jump in through the back hatch.  Does he remember?

A year ago he had a romp in the back yard of a house several blocks over from us.  Every time we go by he slows down and looks in.  Does he remember?

What things do your doods remember?

I'm glad that both of you are okay. What a scare.

I'm sure Gavin remembers. They are so smart.

I like to drive the boys to various dog parks around the town. Monty remembers where dog parks are and even if we've been to a certain dog park only once, the next time I'm heading that way, he would start whining with excitement good 2 miles before we get there. Now, I'm spacially challenged and have a problem finding my way around (the way there looks totally different to me than the way from there), but Monty certainly knows where he is no matter from which direction we are coming. I'm always amazed.

It is truly amazing their sense of "place."  My husband would say it is because our dogs are all males that they know where they are...I ain't buying that!

I have an extra reflective vest. May I send it to you?  During these dark hours it comes in so handy.  Hope you take me up on my offer so you both remain safe.

Sweet offer Joanne, but I have reflective arm bands, shoes, leash and this all happened mid day, in broad day light!  How do you miss a tall, sturdy women in a white vest and a giant blond dog?  We couldn't stick out more lol!

Albus is a smarty pants!  I remember the tag situation.  Good for him to be cautious!

I remember that story about

Wow, BG, I really think Gavin  does remember.

We walked that route again yesterday.  He did the same thing, only this time just for about a quarter of the block then back to normal.

What a close call! I'm glad that you are both ok.

I'm sure Gavin remembers...these doods are really smart!  Plus he loves you and I'm sure he felt your strong emotion - so that probably made a big impression on him.

Finnegan watches to see what shoes I pull out of the closet in the morning.  If it's my "jogging' shoes, he does the happy dance.  If not, he climbs into "his" chair and mopes.

I have a friend that we walk with a lot.  If she calls and I put her on speakerphone, he's does the "happy dance" when he hears her voice and heads for the laundry room where I keep his leash. Any other voice, he just ignores. HE's pretty good at remembering places too. He's always surprising me.

OMD Finn can identify your shoe choice?  Now that is smart!

...and mildly annoying LOL ! I have children to inflict this level of guilt :)

First of all, I think you and Gavin need to stay in the house and not go out anymore. There have been too many "close calls" lately and we want you to remain safe :) This post has me thinking. Fudge has a great memory.  Sometimes, I think she should be driving the car and not me. I can turn out of our driveway and I swear she knows where we are going. If she gets corrected for some wrong doing, I get the cold shoulder for awhile, like she is thinking, "don't think I forgot what happened earlier."  If I make Vern leave a toy in the yard before he gets in the car the minute he gets out of the car when we arrive home he runs to get that toy. On the other hand, he barks at our neighbors every time he sees them in the yard like he has never seen them before and has no idea who they are. I think he takes after me more than Fudge. LOL
