Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have a feeling I might get teased for bringing this up, but I'm too curious to resist. I found this site looking for factual information and have found so much more - including an opportunity to contribute in a way that might help others. Now I'm pretty much hooked.
It dawned on me a few days ago that the vast majority of people on here are women. I did see a discussion group for men, but it didn't seem very popular or active.
Don't get me wrong - I'm definitely not one to complain about being surrounded by too many women. I am curious as to why people think this might be the case, though.
Are doodles more popular with women? I never noticed that to be true, although now that I think about it, my ex was the one who discovered the breed.
Or maybe it's because many doodles are owned by couples, and the woman is the one primarily responsible for its care?
Or maybe it's just more in the nature of women to communicate about these things - in other words, the same reason women like to ask for directions when they are lost and men like to figure it out on their own?
I really don't know. I'm interested in hearing what other people think.

I'm 37. Have they expired? I would say yes and no. Yes, they have expired in that I don't think many people see a male nurse or female doctor and think anything of it. No in that when someone else references that stereotype we still know what they are talking about. I'm thinking of "Meet the Parents", for example. First you are introduced to Ben Stiller's character and told that he is a nurse. For me at least I wouldn't have thought anything about that one way or another. Until later on, De Niro's character makes a disdainful reference to his daughter being engaged to a male nurse. The comment shows him to be old school and misogynist - but we are all familiar with that mentality and understand what he means. If instead of being a male nurse, Focker had been a male dog trainer, I don't think the effect would be quite the same. Definitely if he were a male doctor it would make no sense at all.
HA! Funny you mentioned "Meet the Parents" because that's exactly what your comment made me think of! Greg Focker!
@Traci - hahaha ... I've got my eyes on you, FOCKER! I can't even type that name without chuckling to myself. Now this conversation REALLY has nothing to do with doodles!
Yes, and, "Are you a pothead, Focker?" One of my favorite all time movies! Sorry, so off topic. Couldn't help myself.
Traci, Puff was the name of the boy's magical dragon...
Ok, stopping now. Really.
Andy - what are these heated debates you refer to? They sound terrifying...
Lots of the most heated debates have been about puppy mills, people giving up on their dogs and there was even one about how a dog was groomed. The debates become heated when instead of debating the issues people start arguing ad hominem. People on both sides of the issue join in defending and attacking each other. Most of the time it's pretty ridiculous IMHO.
This is actually the first forum I've really been involved with and like F, it came as a complete surprise that I would become so involved. I think you may have answered your own question when you said (paraphrasing) that women are better communicators. :>) Men are bare bones with just the facts and women prefer to have their stories a little more fleshed out. I love this site because no matter if you need someone to laugh with or cry with, there is always someone there for you.
:>)
I agree Donna!
