Ragley is getting spayed tomorrow and and I am (way) overdue in getting her microchipped so I was planning on getting it done tomorrow during the spay. I am filling out the surgical consent form which includes the microchipping part, but I noticed that the type of microchipping they offer is in the form of a yearly subscription- is that normal? When I rescued my cat four years ago, she came with a microchip that is lifetime registration type of thing. Is there an option for a microchip that I don't have to pay a subscription each year for? It's not that I mind paying for a subscription, but if there is a different option I'd be interested in looking into it.

Also, I think I am prepared for her spay as I have been reading old discussions, etc. and have some experience with it, but any and all advice is welcome! One of my main questions is about the blood screening- it's $44.50 for a basic blood screen- is it worth it?

And, of course- I'll include a picture :)

Most vets prefer to wait until spay/neuter to microchip - it's a big needle and not a tiny little sting.  Home Again does not require the membership fee, but the advantages that come with that fee are an individual choice.

The only thing I can think of that might help after surgery - - be sure to tell them not to trim her back nails. Most of the time they will trim nails while the patient is asleep, but those back ones can do some damage to a tummy when it trys to scratch those itchy stitches.  A onesie would help - but she's a big girl -at any rate, it is something that was a problem here.

Breathe deep and take a spa day tomorrow!

UPDATE: Ragley is back home now and resting. She is still a little groggy, but came out with a wagging tail to greet me. The vet said she did wonderfully and all her blood work was normal. Now for the fun part of keeping her calm and relatively still for the next 7-10 days!

Yay!  It was difficult to keep Libby quiet - after a few days she was just back to her normal self.  She never really bothered with her incision so we just worried about her not jumping too much.  Otherwise we just let her be and she was fine.

Yay!  Glad to hear she is in good spirits.

Yay! Hoping for a fast and easy recovery!

Glad she did well. The 10 days will have come and gone before you know it.  She's such a beautiful pup!

Yay!  Glad everything went well!  It's so sweet how they're still happy even when they're all doped-up. :)  Best wishes for a calm puppy during her recovery!

Yay! Great news!! :)

Awesome news! I've been thinking about her all day!
Hey...how did the interview go?

You are too sweet! I think it went well! I'm pretty nervous because it is basically my dream job, but I am remaining hopeful. I should know more tomorrow or at least by the end of the week- I'll be sure to update!

UPDATE! Got the job!!! So excited although Ragley has a bit of a change about to hit her when I start 12 hour shifts...

WHOOOOOHOOOOO! Congrats!
