Hi all! I'm a newbie here - love it so far. How fun to be with a group of DOODE lovers!!
We have a standard Golden Doodle and want to add another smaller dog to our family. Do the Mini's have the same temperment and personality or are they yippy like a toy poodle?
Also - anyone have a standard and mini combo? How did it go?
We have a mini black goldendoodle and he's not yippy at all and has a great personality. He NEVER barks ever and only gets a little wild when he's tired at the end of the night right before he crashes. He's 8 months old.
He weighs 24 lbs. now and the breeder thinks he'll end up around 30lbs.
Good luck!
P.S. he also plays with many standard doodles in the park behind our house and they all get along fine.
Halas is a mini, and he's not yippiy either. Go to the discussions page and do a search. There are have been a few different discussions about personality differences, etc. between minis and standards. A lot of people responded to those discussions, so you'll be able to find some good info. There is also a group or a discussion about multiple doodles, so you may want to check that out, too.
I have a 36 pound labradoodle and she loves to bark when she wants me to play, but has a deep lab bark and is not yippy at all. She doesn't bark at cars or other disturbances and may just give one bark when someone knocks at the door. She also loves her best friend from next door who is a 48 pound standard size goldendoodle.
I don't think you can generalize doodles though. It's really not that predictable --some are small dogs with big dog personalities and some act like minis. I think you just have to get to know the dog. I do know a few other minis and they all seem pretty calm compared to the other dogs out there that are their size.
The assertion/assumption that our mini doodles are like toy poodles and/or are yippy can be a bit of a contenscious issue. You might be advised to research past/ongoing discussions on the subject here on DK.
