Poor Molly, she came up limping on Tuesday night, and it carried on for another two days. Finally I had her into the vet - we have a new one here in Tweed. That's a very nice thing but unfortunately his accent is SOOO heavy we can barely understand him. Not his fault but I think perhaps we'll communicate in writing.

Anyway, I had looked all over her paw, pads, between toes, etc., and couldn't find anything. He finds something right off and shaves between her toes right at the top. A huge red lump. Poor girl is still limping. Anyway, she is on some pretty heavy duty meds one of which is akin to prednisone. Yikes that can cause all kinds of side effects.

Anyway, I am so proud of her for one thing, she just doesn't get upset with the poking and prodding, and it must have hurt like stink. The vet even commented on how calm she seemed.

The meds can produce these side effects: increased thirst, increased hunger, diarrhea, aggression. Boy I am not happy about this at all but got to get this infection under control. Don't even know why it started. Vet seems to think she got something stuck into her skin and it festered.

Now I have to try to keep her paw wrapped so she won't lick it so much. Here's a pic.

This is my query, does anyone in the food group, I am not a member, know of a good probiotic for dogs? I have never fed her one before as on her raw diet I don't think she needs any, but with the antibiotics and other meds, I am worried about her guts flora.

Hope Molly's owie gets better quickly, Quincy was on prednisone a little while back for the treatment of a cyst that ruptured. He was also on antibiotics at the same time and I was a little concerned about the effects but other than being a little more thirsty he had no issues. I had read that the prednisone could cause some urinary incontinence, but luckily we had no issues.
Get Well Soon, Molly!!!

Andrea,

I hope Molly feels better really soon. One of my girls has had to use Prednisone on and off over the years. I have noticed that she does  get hungrier and she drinks quite a bit more water, so be aware that she might need to go out more than normal. But no aggression. I doubt that that is much of a problem in short term use anyways. But unlikely to be a problem in good natured dogs who are not being harrased or irritated. I would suggest just adding some yogurt to each of her feedings.

Feel better soon Molly!
Feel better fast Molly!!
