I never thought of JD as a follower; he's always been a pretty independent guy. At the dog park, he keeps to himself and focuses on me and his tennis ball, ignoring all of the other dogs running around. But this morning, he showed me that even he is susceptible to peer pressure.
We were out in the yard when a friend came by walking his own dog and his DD's dog, who is staying with them while the DD is out of town. As the man and I were talking over the fence, his DD's dog found an enormous branch lying in my side yard. She immediately started tearing it apart and chewing on the pieces. As we continued talking, I heard something strange and turned to find JD trying to tear a branch off of my lilac bush. He did manage to snap off a good sized piece and chomp on it a few times. He has never done this before.
If Rover jumped off the Empire State Building, I guess JD might, too.
Do you have a Monkey-Doodle?

I say that qualifies Halas as a Monkey See Doodle!
Ha ha, what a cute story! Thanks for the smile!
Hi, Ann, Merry Christmas!
Jack is such a good boy. He's polite enough to go get his own stick...even if he has to rip it off of a bush. Big Murph would have just gone and taken it away from the "visiting dog".....because EVERY stick is HIS!
I would love for everyone to think this, Jane, but the truth is, there was a fence between them. So we'll never know just how polite he really is, lol!
Oh, Jack, you just proved you are a regular guy! Good job, keeping your mom hopping.
LOL, Nancy, he definitely keeps me hopping!
Wait til they're in bloom, JD! Then your mom will think you're such a sweet guy, bringing her lilacs...:)
I noticed that both Trav and Gren play the Monkey See & Do game. Both bark at things if the other starts it, both will do crazy running if one starts it, etc.
Pat, if they were teenagers, I think our boys would be gang members, lol!
Loved this story about JD, Karen. It show an entirely different side of him! But I don't think it had anything to do with that other dog. I think he just got bored while you were chatting up the neighbor and was just trying to do a little yard work for you...you know helping out a bit, trimming the hedges.
Ricki, JD thanks you for this creative excuse explanation for his behavior!
Now if he could just learn to mow the lawn!
