"Mother" Love

Lilo has destroyed every stuffed animal we've ever given her... EXCEPT for chipmunk, who she treats like a real baby. She carries him around, sleeps with him, and makes sure he's clean. We call him her "baby". If we ask her where "baby" is, she runs around like crazy to find him, and brings him back to us to show him off. Does anyone else have a doodle who mothers their special toy like it were alive?

She's adorable. Maybe it's a girl dog thing. My female is like this with things. For awhile it was a stuffed dog, then a duck. Once Jack gets hold of them, they're toast and I have to get her a new one. She will do the same thing for awhile. It's harder with three dogs to keep anything nice for very long.

It is funny that you just posted this. My parents had a Lhasa/Yorkie mix when I was growing up that passed away a few years ago. My mom has Daisy dog's favorite "baby" sitting up on a shelf in her bedroom and we were just talking about the memories this weekend when I saw the toy(a yellow rubber ball with a bunny face painted on it!) sitting up there.

I think it's 'Doodle' Love. My doodle is a male and he has a baby also, ir's a small stuffed lamb ( looks like it could be his baby). He plays with it, sleeps with it but doesn't really 'mother' it. He likes his other stuffed toys but 'Baby' is definately his favorite.

I'd say that Lilo started babying chipmunk about a year ago... she still destroys other stuffed toys that we give to her and Rocky, but her baby has survived all the de-stuffing sprees, and is "sacred". If Rocky picks baby up, she gets very upset, and tells him to drop it (which he usually does, to avoid the repercussions)....

Yup, those are bully stix... if baby is around, she only has eyes for him !!!

Samantha and Moo - this is her baby. She cuddles, plays and carries it around like it was her own puppy

Oh my goodness that's too cute! I can't imagine any of my dogs doing that :-)

I had an airedale many years ago when I was in college and she had a rubber doll that was her baby. Every time she would go into heat, she would dig up the doll (in the back yard) and carry it around, lick it, and take very good care of the baby for a few weeks. Then she would bury the doll again and not dig it back up until she went into heat again. We tried breeding her several times, but she never conceived. Somehow the mothering instinct was kicked in when she went into heat.
Hondo has his favorite toys that he carries around (a pink cell phone #1-555-WOOF) and a loon from REI with a very authenic call. Groucho Too tears up everything, but Hondo will not let him get these favorites. These guys go through lots of toys and as soon as the squeekers break and the stuffing starts to be pulled out, it the garbage can they go.

Cealeach doesn't mother anything. However, we have noticed that she bites the noses off of all her stuffed animals and other toys. If it has a nose when it gets here, it won't for long!

Maybe poor K-Doodle was scared by a nose when she was bery little!!?????

This is the ONLY toy that Lucy has not destuffed and destroyed. She loves her rubber pig. As you can see it has be through alot and still not one single chewed hole in it YET!!
