I don't know about all of you, but I am ready for a lighthearted discussion.  Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday and I would like to hear a funny story or stories about your mother. I have to be careful here because my DD's are on DK, but luckily my mother is not :) My mother will be 85 this May and she has a great sense of humor. She laughs at all my jokes, even when they are about her. I guess growing up she always used to say if someone teases you, they like you, so going by that theory I love her and my family loves me.

My mom is not a big animal person and does not understand why people want pets. She does, however, love Fudge and Vern. Once when my kids were little, I called and told her we were getting a cat. Right away she said if we got a cat then she wasn't coming to stay at our house ever again and when I told that to my DH, we started laughing and yelled to the kids to get dressed, and to please hurry because we were on our way to get a cat that day. She was still on the phone and that cracked her up.

A couple of years ago, she announced to us that she was coming out to our house for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  According to her, her financial guy said she can afford to come for both holidays.  We told her we thought she should be thinking about getting a new financial guy and that sent her into waves of laughter.

When President Obama was newly elected, she could not stop talking about his possible Health Care plan. My mom still has all her marbles and can get pretty wound up about a subject and kept going on and on about his plan and said it could mean euthanasia for the elderly.   The last time she brought it up, one of us asked her if she knew how to get someone on the list and did it help if more than one family member submitted a name and then we all laughed.

She is beyond competitive and at 85, is in a Wii bowling league and plays every week. If you beat her, you have to keep playing until she beats you. I got her a Mother's Day card this year that says something like They say the Nut doesn't fall to far from the tree and then you open it and it says that scares the hell out of me. Truer words were never spoken. Both my mom and I like to laugh and I see my future before my eyes when I look at her. I think laughter is a pretty great thing to pass on to your children. So, Happy Mother's Day to my funny mom and I would love to hear some funny stories about what makes your mom special.

My mom is smart, but a little gullible.  Plus she used to think I was an angel, so she was a good target for practical jokes.  One great one was a spur-of-the-moment trick back in about 1986.  Remember touch lamps?  You just touched the base of the lamp to turn it on.  Well, we had a touch lamp on one side of the room, and a lamp with a 3-way bulb on the other side of the room.  I was doing homework by the 3-way bulb, and one of the ways burnt out.  So the lamp wouldn't go up to it's brightest level.  I moved to the other side of the room with the touch lamp.  As I'm touching the base of the lamp, I notice for the first time that it has 4 levels of brightness.  The lamp was pretty new, and none of us had realized that there were 4 levels of brightness.  We figured it had 3 levels like our other lamps. Fast forward to a few hours later.  Mom is home from work, and she's sitting by the touch lamp, while I'm back over by the 3-way lamp (which now only has 2 levels of brightness).  Mom starts tapping the touch lamp and notices the 4 levels of brightness.  She says, "Hey!  This lamp has 4 ways in it instead of only 3!"  Never one to miss an opportunity to be a smarta**, I said, "Oh, yeah!  In Physics today, I learned how to take one way from this bulb (pointing to the 3-way lamp) and move it over to that bulb.  See, that one goes 4 ways, and this one only goes 2 ways now." (showing her that the 3-way lamp only has 2 levels of brightness now).  She said that was really cool, and I left it at that.  I thought it was pretty funny, but it got really funny the next day.  I called her at work, and she said she was just telling her work people about what I did with the lamps.  I had kind of forgotten about it, so she said, "You know!  The thing you did with the ways?!"  Then I had to confess.  I thought it was pretty funny that she was bragging to all of her co-workers about how gifted I was.
Leslie, What a hoot! I wonder what the co-workers were thinking? Very funny!
LOL! Hilarious!!!
Leslie, moms do think their kids can do anything.

My mom is someone that I look up to in so many ways. She's light hearted, determined, and has one heck of a sense of humor. She loves sports, and lives a very active lifestyle. She's had 8 kids and still looks young. I have no idea how she has the energy to do all she does in a day, but she is a dedicated athlete, scrapbook doer, geneology finder, and mother. This picture is really her in a nutshell...

And just for kicks, here is a photo of me, my big sister and my mom. We used to go to this local thrift store and have an ugliest outfit contest. This particular contest was particularly hilarious. I think I won, LOL. (The hair was part of the outfit... not how I usually wear it :-)) There are too many funny stories to share, but I will just say that my mom is really a fun character and we've had lots of good times. How many people can say that their mom is the one who taught them how to toilet paper a person's house?

Camilla, Both pictures are great. Thanks for the hair explanation, although I am not sure I believe it....LOL! Your mom sounds wonderful. After all, she did help you with your fake poop shenanigans.

Your mom sounds just about perfect, Camilla.
So sweet and funny!!

I don't want to get all weepy by telling my favorite stories about my Mom (I'm working!!!!) But here she is... with her Grand Doodle   :)

This is a great picture. One hand on the doodle and one hand on the phone....good times, for sure!!!
