Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I feel like the worst doodle momma this evening. I took my 12 week old mini-goldendoodle for his usual afternoon leashed walk and we saw another leashed dog being walked by a friend in my business complex. The vet has been encouraging me to begin socializing and we've been doing that alot over the past few weeks and Lambeau, my doodle has been doing great!. The dog was fine and then we turned to go back to my office and the other dog attacked Lambeau out of nowhere! He was a beagle/terrier mix. He bit him 3 times which one of the bites in his leg cursed his bone to break and then he latched himself onto the back of my doodle's neck and I physically was pulling the dog off my Lambeau. long story short Lambeau is in the ICU this evening awaiting surgery for his leg tomorrow. Good news is there is no spinal damage and he is being pumped full of antibiotics to resist infection. Have any of you experienced anything like this or a broken leg in a small puppy? What types of things should we be looking at in terms of recovery?

So so scary!! I never want to have another incident like that nor do I wish it on anyone. Come to find out that dog had exhibited violent behavior towards other dogs in the past. When I first took him into the emergency vet they asked me lots of questions about his neck and did X-rays and kept saying spinal this and spinal that. It freaked me out!! Luckily there is only tissue damage. He still has feeling and movement in all his extremities. I'm not sure how with all the shaking that occurred how he doesn't have more damage. I'm so thankful that's it though!!

I am so sorry. Sending wishes for a speedy recovery for your sweet baby.

Hope surgery goes well.  We had a mini-dachshund years ago that jumped off the bed and broke her front leg.  She did much better with it than I would have thought but I was a mess.  Good luck to both of you.

I'm so sorry....you must have been terrified.  I would encourage you once Lambeau has recovered from the surgery to arrange some play time with dogs you know.  I'm part of a Facebook group for reactive dog owners (because I have a reactive Doodle), and many of these dogs became reactive after going through similar attacks.  You'll want to continue with positive socialization experiences to prevent that.  Good luck and I sure hope the surgery goes well.

Thank you so much! I would love more info on the doodle group!! My vet is recommending the same thing!
Oh no! I'm so sorry your dog was attack! You must have been devastated!!! Those little terriers can be so mean, they always bark at Cooper on our walks. I wish Lambeau a speedy recovery! Lambeau is such a cutie! Keep us posted!

What a frightening experience. I agree that some positive socialization after this will be helpful. I know that one of my doodles would be very affected by something like this, and I would do the same.  Keep us posted.

Oh no, what a nightmare!  It wasn't your fault and I hope the dog owner owns up to it and pays expenses as they should. Speedy recovery to Lambeau puppy!

Sending lots of positive vibes to you and Lambeau.

Sending lots of love and wishing for a speedy recovery for little Lambeau.  I'm so sorry you both have to go through this!

What a terrible thing to have happened. At the very least I hope your friend covers all medical costs and that you file a complaint, not to be vindictive but it is unusual in my experience for a puppy  to be attacked and it is my guess that this may not be the first time that dog was reactive. I wish Lambeau an easy recovery and please do take up Jane's advice as you need Lambeau not to be damaged by this horrible experience going  forward.

Just terrible.  Not your fault, though.  Please consider Jane's advice and in the meantime, wishing a speedy recovery for that cutie pie.
