I have to remind myself all of the time when Colter does something dumb like a puppy would do that he is a puppy.  He is so big.  He's already almost 30lbs and tall.

Just an update, too.  He is doing a lot better.  He is playing with everything--balls, stuffed animals, computer cables ( :( ), papers.  You name it, he's got it in his mouth.  He sill runs to the other room when I walk into the room he's in but he's getting better with that, too.  This morning, for the first time, he continued eating his breakfast even when I walked past him.  Could be he was just hungry, too.  But, the good news is that he's starting to act like a puppy.

Next weekend I am going to take him and Cody to a dogpark in the area.  It costs you money to get it, but it has a swimming pond, trails, etc.  It will be fun to see what he does with water.  I live on a lake but I'd rather introduce him to water in a more controlled environment.  Any of your NJ folks heard of Rocky Top Dog Park?  It may be fun to schedule a romp there.  Lots of room.

So, things are getting better.  Leash training is going slowly because he doesn't follow me around the house like other puppies.  He doesn't follow me anywhere.  He follows Cody.  That is strange puppy behavior.  Hopefully that will change because until it does, leash training will be tough.

I'm so happy to hear things are going better with Colter and he's now enjoying being a Doodle puppy! I wouldn't worry...the leash training will come. Right now he's bonding with you and that's great news.
We are taking our pup to Rocky Top Dog Park today....It's our first time to a dog park and like you, we wanted to try it in a very controlled environment. I like the idea that the park checks vet records and does not allow certain breeds in. We live in Sayreville, but it seems like the half hour drive might be worth it. I will post some pictures and comments later on when we get back from the park!
It is hard to think of them as puppies when they are so big. Oliver was big like that, and he got bigger, lol, but even though he is now 13 mos. he is still a puppy, lol, and yes he still likes to take things, and run with them, he puts everything in his mouth, and thinks this is a game, We are working on this, not easy, but it will succeed. They are really still just puppies, and mostly we have to remember that. He is bonding with you, and that is the most important thing..Leash training will come, we are still working on his pulling, and charging off when he sees something that interests him,,I have many a sore muscle from him doing this, but we are working on that too...Just look inthose sweet eyes and face, and you will see he is just a pup, full of curiosity, and that is a good thing...
Thanks for your responses of hope. I so want to learn to walk on a leash. We'll keep working at it but it is so nice having a real puppy in the house...or is it? He's a handful. Gotta watch every move he makes in the house!
