I started to post this as a blog, but figured I would add it as a discussion instead.

I know all about the DRC, but was wondering if there is any group willing to help me rehome my husband. Don't get me wrong, he is a great guy, but he has been making some comments lately regarding my time spent on DK and it has been getting on my nerves. Just the other day, I told him about the Food Group and how some of the members home cook for their dogs and what did he think about me doing that for Fudge and Vern. Well, he almost choked on his Hamburger Helper and then asked if Betty Crocker and Chef Boyardee were also in the group. Next, I told him I had not looked at all of the groups on DK yet, but wouldn't it be funny if there was a group called Bitches and I joined. I told him I could tell all of our family and friends that I was in a group called Bitches and he said he was pretty sure they already knew.

On Tuesday, he was talking about something and I finally said, "Not now, I am trying to find a good butt shot of Fudge to post on Jane and Rooney's discussion,"  and he said, "I wonder if Olan Mills is still open, just in case."  This morning, however, was the last straw.  Snicker's mom posted the sweetest blog about her DH and Snickers leaving a note on her car to meet them at the dog park. I was reading it to my DH and told him I would love to have a romantic note posted on my car one day. A little while later, I went outside and found this on my car.

So. here is my question....should I just try some additional training or is is time to rehome him?  We have been married 33 years, so I think the expression "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" might apply.

Thanks for the good laugh.  You are too funny!
Ah, keep him!  I have been married about as long and sometimes have questions about whether to keep or rehome, but there are just too many takers out there.  My husband complains that I cook for the dogs, but not for him.  I tell him that is because he can cook for himself, but the doods can't.  I got in the habit of cooking for Hondo and have not been able to kick the habit.  Besides, they LOVE home-cooked food.  He loves his own cooking (spicy) and doesn't like my cooking (bland), so what to do??  Let him cook for himself.

I never got over the ground hog in the window well.  As we read down your blog you said he was an engineer!  I'm still laughing at that post.

I really think I'd like to meet him one day.   You can send him here and we could foster him.

The ground hog story made my Christmas letter this year. My Christmas letter is a lot like my posts and I keep notes all year for that one. However, the gopher will never be forgotten. I laugh, too, when I think about him coming out of that garage with that ski.
the groundhog was one of the best posts!!  very funny!!
Thanks!!

Maybe we just need a HDH support group ladies. Since it seems futile that we can ever rehome them,

I am kinda used to my hopeless doodle husband after 39 years. Besides he does follow most commands well by now. He will come when he's called, he will "sit" well, (too well most days) "lay-down ",he's got down pat without even a verbal command. He does know now not to jump on people when we answer the front door and although he still doesn't put his bowl in the dishwasher, he does eat anything I give him without complaint, ( he knows what the solution to that would be, and he doesn't llike to cook that much). He does go for nice walks and hikes as long as he, once again, gets to sit when he needs to. He is quite the cuddler in bed and on the couch and also knows when to rush to the door to greet me and when to not bother because I've had a bad day.

Yup, I guess I'll keep mine too. It's taken 39 years to get this far, and I just don't think I have 39 more left in me to do it all over again.

It sound like you have done well training your HDH so far, but remember Sue training never stops.  So keep up the good work!  BTW have you ever considered an agility class for him?

Now that's an idea we might have to look into. He is actually pretty good at climbing ladders and wiggling thru small spaces when need be. Just the other day he had crawled under the bed to collect all the balls and was so proud of himself!  He just came up with a bright red face and a big ol' smile like he had just struck gold.

These HDH's are so entertaining. Agility...hummmm. I wonder if I have enough Advil in the house for when he gets home from all this activity.  He IS retired you know, and pretty up there in years.
