We've had our new rescue doodle (about two years old) just one week. She very sweet but extremely shy and unsocialized. Her coat is curly and soft on her head and legs and tail but her back feels wirery. She also has two light red wirery spots on her back.
any guesses out there?
Her name is Molly and we are so happy to have her.
Mine has a curly head and a wirey back and his original vet labeled him a labradoodle. Tough to tell sometimes. Mine deals with some serious separation anxiety, but he's not shy. Give her time, its worth it. My doodle, buddy, goes from strict 1920's librarian to circus performer to stuffed animal in minutes. Its amazing. She looks beautiful. Be patient and have fun!!

My Bunny is a multi generational labradoodle...soft on the sides, legs, head....a coarse wirey strip running directly down her back into her tail. Molly definately looks multi generational labradoodle. I have seen with lots of doodles different colors in their coats. Bunny's wirey strip is a yellow the rest is white (when she's just been bathed!). Make sure under the reddish spots that their is not a swelling...our little Bunny got nipped on the rear end by a play crazed Jack Russell, it turned into a staph infection and caused her hair to look "rusty"...if there is no hard lump under the hair I'm sure it's just Mollys' coloring! Molly is beautiful!
Oh, she is beautiful! I think she looks like an f1 labradoodle - she has a "labby" face and nose, different from my goldendoodle. But it's just a guess. I am so happy for you and for Molly! I hope you all have a very happy life together!
Congratulations to you, Molly is beautiful. My dog Steve is an F1B labradoodle and he is cream colored but he he has red wiry hairs scattered down his back with the main concentration at the base of his tail.
Thanks for the photo. Steve and Molly look so much alike. I can see Steve's reddish color on his back and it looks just like Molly's. Did you get Steve from a breeder? Is that how you know he's an F1B labradoodle? I wonder where genetically the wiry hair comes from.
thanks again.
I got him from a breeder who had both his mother and father. His father was a cream colored standard poodle and his mother was a sable F1. I think she started out black and then turned more gray and brown. She did have more wiry hair but I don't know where the red comes from.
Thanks to all of you who have written in with your well-wishes and best guesses as to Molly's doodle mix. It is so fun to have found this community of doodle enthusiasts.
My F1 Labradoodle has very wavy, soft hair on her head and legs, but very wiry hair on her back and most of her tail. I have personally seen this more with labradoodles than goldendoodles, but one never really knows unless you do a DNA test at the vets.
Either way-- you have yourself a very pretty girl there! good luck with her!
Im feeling pretty confident, based upon these two photos, that the doodle is a F1B Labradoodle. I would need to see full side body shots to verify more. And certainly if I met her in person that would seal the deal. This dog looks very much like Bodzin in Indiana who is owned by Leah (you can search the members list to locate photos)
Congratulations on the rescue. For really shy dogs I suggest that you take things very slowly and only ask for interaction dont demand it. The secret to these shy dogs is to not give attention and let them be the ones to decide when things are cool. Thats REALLY hard for people that are happy to have a dog, but ultimately they will warm up the less demands for attention you give them. Also dont require her to do tons of interactions with lots of people or groups of people for a while. If you have people come over, let her sniff around and tell folks to ignore her. She stays for a while, but then put her in another room to relax before she hits her limits of holding it together.
Less is more.
Give her what she needs, not what you want. You will eventually get what you want too. :)
