Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I got a doodle 2 yrs ago that I was told was a giant schnoodle. He is a sweet and goofy boy but something has always been a little off in his behavior. He doesn't have the poodle holier than thou attitude or that on a schnauzer. He has a constant need to control other dogs which causes conflicts with my female shepherd and he absolutely hates my wimpy shepherd. I described some of his strange behaviors like making a thump noise when he closes his mouth constantly. She is a groomer and is very familiar with giant schnauzers, poodles, and has a lot of experience showing bouviers. She felt his body structure and told me some are far too pronounced to be a schnauzer or poodle but perfect for a bouvier. She thinks he is a bouvier poodle cross. We got him as an adult given away free. The only reference to what breed he is is written in pencil on his vet records. The thump noise he makes is the same as her pure bouvier does. I'm convinced she is right and the owner just might have not known the proper breed of the parents. He is almost 6 which I think is before this whole doodle craze was big and probably an accidental breeding. His behavior is spot on for a herding breed and explains some of the issues we've had. So I completely agree with this determination.
Anyways after looking into what the mix would be called, I found that they are being called flandoodles. I really don't think that makes sense. The breed is bouvier des flandres which means "cow herder of flanders", with flanders being the region the dog is from. I thought they would have been called bouvadoodles. You wouldn't take a german shepherd and mix it with a poodle then call it a germandoodle. As cute and goofy he is, I hope this doesn't become a another in the doodle craze since the mix isn't exactly the best matched. Still I would rather tell everyone I have a bouvadoodle than a flandoodle which sounds too much like a nonsense word flamdoodle. And don't worry he is neutered and my friend would be crucified if she ever thought of mixing a bouvier with anything, not that she would ever consider it. I was just wondering who the heck gets to chose these doodle "breed" names. Why are there yorkipoos and not yorkidoodles? Frankly a yorkipoo sounds like something you stepped in from a yorki.
Just babbling
and what does a bouvadoodle look like......

I think alot of the names are made up and are totally stupid. Mixing breed A and breed B does not make a new breed - there are no standards. Alot of planning goes into trying to create a new breed, such as the Australian labradoodle. You wouldnt cross say a lab and a collie and give it a new name, people say they have a lab collie cross, so why are people obsesed with creating new names, in particular when one of the breeds is a poodle.
Gorgeous dog though, whatever he is!
