I wrote earlier about having issues with leaving water out at night for Noah. I decided to ignore his cries to go out at 3 a.m. earlier this week and woke up to urine on my carpet. I poured nature's miracle on the stain on Monday. Today, I could still smell the urine, so I poured a LOT of nature's miracle on the spot so the carpet was completely saturated. Now it smells even worse - like a combination of alcohol, chemical, and very gross urine. When I get a whiff of it, I have to leave my room. Is there any other product out there that can take care of this odor? The stain is gone, but now I'm left with this terrible smell. I'm going to need professionals to steam the carpet, but in the mean time, any suggestions to relieve the smell?

We used vinegar when we were potty training. It does smell like vinegar for a few hours, but it goes away and then you can't smell anything.
Sorry, I forgot to add, You can also sprinkle baking powder on the carpet, let sit for ten minutes or so, then vacuum up. This has worked really well for us as well.
Is it baking powder or baking soda? I get them mixed up. I think baking soda is what you can put in refrigerators to absorb the odors, so maybe baking soda could also work for this.
When you get something like urine on the carpet you should try to blot as much of it up as you can if it's still wet. Then it helps to use a wet rag afterward. Then use the Nature's Miracle. It was always quite effective for me .
I was about to ask if you had blotted it up thoroughly as well. That's what I've always done & had great success, too. If you did, I don't know why it was different this time, either.
It's very likely that it seeped way down and wide. We have a steam cleaner and most of the time even after blotting a wet area first, using NM, I've still had to steam clean over it TWICE to get the smell out.
You are right. I meant to write baking soda.
I mix them up all the time - LOL :-)
Jane, if these things don't work, possibly there is a number on the back of the bottle that you might call and ask for suggestions!
That did happen once to us on a really large urine spot in the bedroom. Three separate applications of the Nature's Miracle didn't get out all the smell. We have a small portable steam cleaner and we had to use that on the spot. This did remove the odor and the entire stain. I forget how much we paid for the steamer, but I know it wasn't very expensive, and it does the trick for us.
We use the Spot Bot by Bissell and Arm & Hammer has a pet product (like Natures Miracle) that you spray on...cleans great...smells wonderful....never had much luck with Natures Miracle...
We have a Spot Bot. WOW - do I love that thing. About every two to three months, Rouser will eat something he shouldn't (like a pine cone) and then, at 3 AM, he gets rid of it. Well, at 3 AM, I do not want to clean up. So, we spray the area with cleaner (you can use a diluted vinegar solution, Nature's Miracle, Bissel Pet Cleaner - whatever you like), put the Spot Bot on top and it does all the work. Leave it and forget it. I use the other hose to get up all the excess moisture (in the morning) and we're done.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this product.
