I am hosting my DD's Baby Shower November 6th. At 4:00p,m, after running a Women's Half Marathon for Breast Cancer. Yeah, I know, nothing like doing too much on one day, but several dear friends and a niece are flying in for the Marathon so it was a perfect time to do it.

Anyway, I want this to be beyond the typical baby shower and need as many creative ideas as you all can share. Was there something at your shower that still stands out in your mind? Have you hosted a shower and had something you are especially proud of that you did? Decorations? Activities?

We are doing a very Organic, Natural, eco-conscious party as that is who my daughter is in life and she appreciates the little things like not using plastic, recycled papers and as little waste as possible. We are holding the festivites outdoors and are planting a tree in our yard in DGD's honor, like we did for both our children many moons ago. I planned to have everyone write a wish for the baby on a tag and tie it to the tree with a ribbon, as part of the evenings decorations.

So far we have invitations on recycled paper, using rented linens, using our own china and silverware, catered with organic foods, Orchids for centerpieces and gifts, handmade soaps made with essential oils and no additives for our thank you's and asking guests to be creative with wrapping their gifts in re-usable things like recieving blankets or towels or something creative.

So, please put on your thinking hats and help me make this extra special for her? She and DH have tried for 3 yrs to concieve and we are all so grateful and excited.

I feel like I am planning her wedding all over again!!!! Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks all.

One thing we did for my niece's shower was make a "mommy" chair.  Used my big oversized chair, covered it in a fun girly pattern, added balloons, boa's and all kinds of stuff.  Think throne like.  She really seamed to like the idea of her special place of honor for the day.

Putting this on the list as well! thankyou

I don't know if this would fit into your eco-friendly theme. I went on the computer and downloaded old wive's tales.  I wrote out each tale as a question with the answer on the reverse. It made for good conversation starters between strangers. We also played a game where a match needed to be made between adult animal and what the baby is called (some of these are hard!).  I love your thank you gifts and wish I had thought of those; we used small plants we started as seedlings.  You could give a raffle ticket to those people who brought hand me down clothing, toys or other baby items. If they weren't needed by your DD, they could be donated to a woman's shelter where they would be greatly appreciated.
I like the wives tale idea a lot. And she has gotten so many recycled clothes and items that she will have plenty already as that really does keep within the eco=friendly theme. Thank you
At my niece's baby shower everyone that came got a necklace & during the party if you heard someone say her husbands name you would go & take their necklace. At the end of the party the one with the most necklaces got a little gift, can't remember what but could be something like a chocolate.
I am doing this as well with knitted booties. Making necklaces with them and whoever has the most at the end wins a prize and then Michele gets the booties.

Great game that we did at a friends shower, which was also a great conversation item as well, is that in the invitation  you ask everyone to bring their baby photo.  They are all posted on a large board and during the shower everyone matches the baby photo to who they think it is and the one with the most wins a prize.  It was really fun watching people guess.

I did this one too. it was fun.
I like this! Will add it to my list of things to tell people when they RSVP!
If you feel like getting silly you can have diaper changing contests or a race to drink out of the baby bottle, whoever finishes first wins. It's totally ridiculous and gives everyone a good laugh.

These are both fun as I have been at showers with this. I always won the diaper one tho as I must change a dozen newborns a day at work, so I'm never out of practice.

Would be really fun tho especially as she is using cloth diapers and NO ONE remembers how to do those. Good idea. I can just see the younger mom's saying "What are these?" When we bring out cloth diapers and safety pins!!!

A friend of mine uses cloth diapers with special throw away inserts. They come in the most adorable designs and are so big and poofy so they look really cute on baby bums :)
