Camus' claw is bleeding profusely, at least I think it is his claw and the pet stores are closed.  Does anyone have a home remedy to stop the bleeding?

The cornstarch stopped the bleeding - I put his whole paw in a bowl of it, but this paw has been problematic for Camus, it has a cutaneous horn pushing the claw that was bleeding out at a strange angle, was the paw that he broke the bone in, and a few weeks ago he it was badly swollen, so the vet gave him an injection of antibiotics followed up with a 10-day course of oral antibiotics and daily soaks.  So I am going to  call the vet in the morning to see if I should have it checked.  I cannot be sure if it was due to his nails being clipped or because of having been cut by a shard from a broken terracotta planter.  When we got home I opened the gate and he ran in before I noticed that someone had knocked over a planter by banging into the fence.

My bad - no emergency kit on hand, but I will be putting one together.

Christine, how is Camus doing this morning?

Hi Jane,  This morning all is good.

Hope Camus is better today!

Yes, all is better now.  Thanks

I'm hoping Camus is feeling better today! I know that,  by now, you have solved the problem, but I just wanted to offer this suggestion for the future.

We had this same thing happen with Cosmo after a nail clipping, and my husband went out and found a styptic pencil--the kind men use for shaving nicks. It was late and the only place open was Walmart, I think. Well, the pencil didn't work worth a doodle, but we shaved off some of the material and used it as a powder, which did work.

So I ordered some of the powder form (Kwik Stop, as Kimmy mentioned) just to keep on hand. We haven't needed it since, but I think it's a good thing to have in the first-aid kit!

You are right Elizabeth, it is a very good idea to have the powder on hand.  My bad, but I will mend my ways and put together a full emergency kit.   Camus keeps me on my toes.

I'm glad the cornstarch worked and Camus is fine this a.m.

How is Camus this morning? I am so glad the cornstarch stopped the bleeding. Please keep us posted on what is happening with that paw. Sorry you guys are dealing with this.

So glad to hear that you got the bleeding stopped and Camus is doing okay!

I am so glad to hear that the bleeding stopped.

Glad to hear you got the bleeding stopped.  I felt like I had bailed on you last night.
