Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi All,
After months of research and excitement, we brought home a wonderful F1b mini goldendoodle (at 7 months old) about four weeks ago. We had visited many goldendoodles in December to test for allergic reactions since both my husband and I have long histories of allergies. We were completely fine with the shorter exposure visits, but we have really struggled since having the puppy in our house. We have tried a laundry list of things (recommended by our vet and dog-owner friends) to help improve the allergies...but with no luck. We had a long talk with an allergist yesterday, and the take-away is that the exposure to our puppy is starting to trigger asthma. The allergist feels that we need to find a new home for the puppy in the interest of our health, especially since my husband has some co-existing health issues
We are devastated since having a puppy has been a dream for our kids for years now, and we are completely smitten with our pup. That said, the entire family has seen how challenging the allergies have been. The kids do understand.
We are looking for a new home for our puppy, so please feel free to PM me if you live in the New England area and have interest or know of someone who might have interest. Details about the puppy:
*from a wonderful breeder who health tests all parent dogs, offers a two year guarantee, does not push particular brands of vitamins, etc.
*an 8 month old F1b mini male goldendoodle who should max out at 20-22 pounds
*cream colored with apricot ears, back and paws
*curly-ish coat
*SUPER sweet: a bit shy at first but really warms up to his "pack"
*crate trained overnight, leash trained and pretty-well potty trained (maybe 4-5 pee accidents in almost a month)
*does not like like the crate during the day (although he is in the crate for 1-3 hours/day depending on where I need to go) and is not ready to be left for longer than 3 hours yet during daytime
*LOVES people: happy to just be in the room with others or to have more playful time
*would do best in a house with people around for at least part of the day
*has all vaccines (including Lyme and Kennel Cough) but still needs to be neutered. I can share details about costs, breeder, etc. through PM. We hope we can find a great new home for this sweet pup and to take comfort in knowing that he will be well loved.
Thanks for reading,
Sara

Sara, have you contacted your breeder? Most reputable breeders will have a clause in their purchase contracts stating that you must notify them before rehoming your pup, and many of them will assist in rehoming, as they often have clients who are looking for an older puppy.
Thanks for the suggestions, Karen. Our breeder did offer to help us re-home our dog, but she is an eight hour drive away. The pup found the long drive here stressful and struggles a bit with "puppy sickness" on long car rides. The breeder said it would be okay to find him a home locally if she can talk to the potential new family.
Is this not a situation where you should go back to the breeder? She knew about your allergy issues and surely she will take this pup back if she is as good as you said she is? This is a very unfortunate situation and I know you did a lot of research before you added this dog to your family. I must add that advertising in this way could find the dog going somewhere unsuitable no matter how careful you are in trying to find the best home. The only true way of ensuring a home is to surrender the puppy to DRC whose vetting process is very vigorous and I know they always have a long list of prospective owners. I do hope this ends well for the puppy soonest and of course for you too.
Thanks so much for your response. Please see my above response to Karen, but I do really appreciate your suggestions and will take them to heart.
I wished I lived in New England, I would take him in a heartbeat, he sounds perfect. I have a 2 year old female mini f1b and we are retired, so we are home all the time. But we live in Michigan.
I am so very sorry for you and your puppy. If you contact a reputable rescue, like the DRC, http://doodlerescue.org/page/rehome-assistance-form they will help you re-home your puppy. They screen applicants, visit prospective adopter homes, insist on a personal meet-and-greet between the dog and adopter before finalizing the re-home.
Our Charlie is a re-home from the DRC. We are very grateful to his previous owners for contacting the DRC about him.
I have sent you a message privately--if you no longer need help with this, please let me know.
I don't see a problem with the pup staying with you (if you are able to hang in there) via breeder agreement until you can find the pup a new home. So it's not being bounced back and forth. But it seems it would be reasonable and a good idea for the breeder to be invested in finding a home ALSO (advertising this puppy, etc to its long list of interested buyers). If it takes a while to find this pup a new responsible home, then you might be forced to take puppy back to the breeder, anyway.
