Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hey guys! i have a question.. i have a 6 month old goldendoodle puppy.. i have posted before about his mouthing issues and nipping my husband and i. my husband wanted to wait to neuter him until about 1 year old.. because he heard it can stunt his growth and the size of his head. but this mouthing thing is driving us crazy! does neutering a puppy calm them down a little? is that really true? what was your personal experiance? thanks xoxo

Being a bit bigger doesn't help with the recovery, lol, and recovery from neuter surgery is very minimal anyway. It's fairly non-invasive.
No, the vet won't do an Xray or MRI (and be glad, because in dogs, MRIs are done under general anesthetic and cost about $2500, lol). With purebred dogs, because there is breed standard and you know how big the dog is going to be in adulthood, it's easier to guesstimate, but an experienced vet should be able to get a feeling for any pup's being finished with bone growth.
I would feel confident that by 8 months, Teddy's growth plates will be closed, so I'd plan on scheduling the neuter for around then, with your vet's agreement.
Thanks Karen....meshes with my preferred timetable since he's 7 1/2 months now.
