Hi everyone, so my pup is about 13 weeks old and just recently I feel like he sex drive has gone up. He is starting to hump his stuffed animals and sometimes my other dog (she is fixed). I also noticed that his "pink crayon" has been popping out more and more, lol. What I want to know is when should I get him fixed? I would like to do it soon, so has anyone gotten there pup neutered around his age? Thanks!

Cooper was doing the same thing at that age. We just stop him when we catch him doing it. Lol. We got him neutered at 18 weeks after he has gotten all of his shots. He doesn't seem to hump anymore, but we did noticed he lifted his left back leg when he pees (3 times so far since he got neutered 10 days ago). I think your best bet is to ask your vet!
I completly understand! My new puppy is probably a carbon I copy of yours. I have heard that you should wait until skeletal growth is complete- which I think is around 9 months? There have been lots post on here that I've read, maybe try searching it? There's a lot of talk about early spay neuter vs. waiting longer. My vet recommended I wait until around a year which would mean the growth plates have fused and it lowers the risk of joint problems, I got my first doodle fixed at 11 months. I'm still reading/ learning to see what I should do with the new one becUse that could be a very long year :/
Interrupt the behaviour and redirect him. He'll soon learn that humping isn't acceptable. Try to hold off on neutering until he is done growing. This will depend on his final predicted size, can be up to 18 months for larger dogs, younger for smaller ones.

Asta was neutered at 19 weeks even though he was not exhibiting any humping behavior nor had he started lifting his leg.  I did have a discussion with my Vet prior to making the decision and she said it could be done any time.  I opted to wait until he had completed all his shots. Asta is doing just fine.

My Wally was neutered when he was a puppy by the breeder's vet.  Our previous doodle, Simon, was neutered by our veterinarian at six months.  It was a long time ago, but I recall the recommended age was at least six months, because this allowed much of his important growing to happen prior to the surgery.
