Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi! Just adopted a goldendoodle from the shelter in Camarillo, Ca. They spay before you can bring the dog home, so we will pick him up this Wednesday afternoon.

We named him Ruffie de Creme BrewLait (since I am a coffee lover). Ruffie is a 2 month old male.

I am reading as much as I can about the new puppies on the site here, and downloaded books on Doodles from Amazon Kindle. There were quite a few.

I have had Yorkies for the past 40 years, and lost my last one to collapsing trachea 4 months ago.

I have seen and loved the Doodles over the past few years, and started reading up on them. Imagine my surprise when one turned up in the local shelter.

Am calling our vet for a checkup this Thursday morning, and want to get pet insurance. No way to know health history with a shelter dog. I like what I have seen with Healthy Paws.

Shopping today for a crate, and probably Origen puppy food. Will post pictures as soon as I can figure out how. ANY advice for first few days would be welcome.

Two of my dogs sort of dance in the water bowl, so we have supposedly no drip bowls which they aren't but they do keep them from playing in the water.

Had Ruffie for alost two weeks now. His weight is up to 17 pounds. He is growing very fast!

Obedience training starts a week from Monday ... he sits on command (after thinking about it for a moment) but does not come when called, unless hungry and food involved. We definitely need to start trainig!

How cute!! We rescued our Labradoodle from a shelter as well!

First grooming today.

Sweet!

Just got back from 2nd vet visit to complete shots. The vet has altered his estimate of Ruffie's age to 3 months instead of 4.... he still has all his puppy teeth. So the shelter's age estimate was pretty accurate.
Today's weight is 15 pounds.

Now you get to choose a new birthday for him!  :-}

Suzy, Congrats!

Hand feed at least some of the food, teach "kisses" by coating your hands in peanut butter or wet food, socialize once the rescue pup is secure and happy at home (and of course shots complete).

I can confirm that Healthy Paws has been super easy to work with for Hoka's recent very large claim. We did start it right after bringing him home, so there will never be a pre-existing condition.

Their iPhone app is great.  You can use it to take a picture of an invoice and then submit it.  Then I ask the vet to fax a copy of the medical record for the visit.  That's it. No forms to fill out. We received confirmation online. We received payment checks within a week or so after each claim.

Our little terrier mix, Moxie, was from a  shelter but had pre-existing conditions (treated while in shelter for heart worm and a normal pregnancy then spaying).  We did also get her insurance, but anything related to the heart worm will not be covered.  The heart worm was caught very early and I hope she never suffers from effects of it.

I also have Healthy Paws Insurance for Hunter best move I could have ever made. I feel so much better knowing I only have a $100.00 deductible it is great and a real relief.
