I'd like to get Winston a nice new dog bed. Something that will last a long time but with a cover I can remove and wash. there are so many different kinds and they can be quite pricey so I want to be sure to get the right kind.

Any suggestions of what kind to get?  What are some good online spots for dog bed shopping?

This sounds exactly like what I want!
That's not exactly what Haus had, but it's the closest thing I can find. I will keep looking to see if I can find the exact one.
It does look really good.
Haus loved it! I think I will get the same one for my new Dood once he is big enough!

I have two to recommend.    Karen - for a therapeutic one, I have this one that I'm sure I paid too much for but all the reviews say it'll last forever from LL Bean.  They offer free shipping:

I also have this one from LL Bean and its holding up great.  I bought the XL and its huge.   Both my 70lb dogs could fit on it (curled up) but its fun to see just one laying on it and sinking in to the bed.   Very pleased with this one too:

Lastly, purchased a great one from Sierra Trading Post.  Brand is KIMLOR (based on a review from DK - I ordered this one too) and have been very pleased with the performance...sturdy and indestructible fabric.   I have the jumbo size for a 70lb dog:

These all look great and the foam/therapeutic one says cooler in summer and warmer in winter so that would be nice. Love the idea for older dogs with hip issues, so I will have to keep this in mind as my two get older.

I really like the therapeutic one, thanks Julie!

I really like these LLBean ones a lot. I will definitely consider those.
I buy  a cheap pillow-type bed from Costco and then I cover it with an old sheet and wash the sheet often.  I can usually fold the sheet and tuck it around the 'pillow.' The double thickness catches all dirt and mud.  These beds last for a year or two.

Up until now, Jack's bed has consisted of a cheap, flat, fake lamb's wool rectangular "bed" (really more like a pad)  from the pet supply store, with a twin size comforter folded in quarters on top. They both go into the washing machine easily, and it's worked pretty well. JD sleeps there about 25% of the time; he moves around between the carpetted floor next to my side of the bed, my bed itself, and the tile floor in the front hallway.

But when I see him lying on his bed, it looks so flat and not at all supportive or cushion-y, and now that he's getting older, I just thought I'd get him something really comfy. I do think there's a chance he won't even like a really cushy new bed, lol.

The sheet trick is great - I use it too.  Costco carries dog blankets during the winter (sherpa style) that I use when it gets cold.

Orvis dog beds are fantastic.  Sturdy, good fabric, replacement covers are available, and they come in many styles and colors, and some can be personalized -- however, they are pricey.  I have one that belonged to Einstein for many years and it is belongs to Camus.  This is a photo of Einstein with his bed (since he developed a balance problem after several strokes, he could not sleep on it at this point, but he still liked to lay down next to it). Replacement filling is also available and if you purchase a chew-proof bed and it gets "chewed" they will send you a new cover at no charge.  Einstein loved the bead filling, he would circle, paw the bed, circle some more then finally when it was just right, he would settle in.  But, it is really a "personal choice".  Link: http://www.orvis.com/store/shop.aspx?dir_id=1633&group_id=1634&...

They also have a sale/clearance section.
