As per Adina's request.... here is a place for us to discuss our thoughts on the new front page.  I am still navigating and trying to see how I like it... I will say though - that I miss having the slide show up top!

Now that I've had a chance to use the new format for a few hours, I do have a couple of observations. The featured photo and video along with the comments boxes seem to be placed in the "prime" location on the front page, yet they don't change. So each time you log in you see exactly the same thing. Previously, although the slide show didn't change, the pictures in the show did, so it didn't feel stagnant. I always look at the latest activity whenever I log in. Now the print seems very small...either that of my sight is really going fast. I'm actually having trouble reading this section now. What made me want to log in several times a day was the fact that the site was so dynamic. With the new placement of things if feels less so. It's funny because when I first logged in this morning I thought it looked great....and it does. Just some observations...

I agree with all of Jane's comments. I like the big picture, but now I've seen it, and I'd like to see others. I also follow the latest activity. I don't like all the of the individual emails I get when I subscribe to the "follow" message option, but I do like checking in on DK.

Also, could the "badge" button be moved down and something be placed there?

I think you hit on an important thing. You're right...the prime location IS now static. I see what you mean. What I want is a website that is 3 x wider (wouldn't fit on any screen) so I can put EVERYTHING in the middle -- ;)

But I think what you said is very important and thus we may go back to the slide show. Looong long ago we used to have the option of making the slide show RANDOM. That option was removed, sadly. So I have been begging for that again as that would solve the issue with the slide show always starting with the same old photos EVERY SINGLE TIME for a full week.

I personally loved the slide show! Having just lost our Beagle Lucy, I would spend lots of time just looking at these beautiful pictures...new life...new hope....

I like the slide show on the main page and the featured video, though as others have mentioned comment box is too big. I missed the online chat (thanks for putting it back). I also like seeing the newest members section. Is there a way to filter the Latest Activity to may Group Activity and What's on Your Mind? Or at least filter comments being posted on individual DK member's wall?
