Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

As per Adina's request.... here is a place for us to discuss our thoughts on the new front page.  I am still navigating and trying to see how I like it... I will say though - that I miss having the slide show up top!

I just went back and looked at the current front page. I don't like the left side. It changes by the minute. When someone logs on and replies to all the comments they have received their replies show up. Right now there are about 6 entries all with the same person's name on it. An l hour ago it was all my name. I got caught up on all the new member welcomes and each one shows up. We have up to 10 new members a day so my welcome would take up half of the allotted space. I don't think we need to know each time a new person was welcomed nor that each person responded to a comment on their personal page.
All those comments always showed up, I believe, in "latest activity". They were just in the center of the page, instead of on the side.
I agree that nobody needs to see who made a comment, whether to a discussion, a blog, or someone else's page. I don't think the "Latest Activity" section is necessary at all. I am alerted each time someone starts a discussion in the forum, or any of the groups to which I belong, and I look at the blogs periodically to see if there any new ones. You can click "Follow" so that you are notified of new comments made to discussions or blogs that you are following. You can also choose settings that notify you when a particular person posts photos; there are certain dogs I love to see, and I get a notice when their owners post news photos. You can also choose to be notified when someone leaves a comment on a photo or blog you like. So I don't see any benefit to "Latest Activity".
Karen how can you notified when certain people post photos? I would LOVE that.
I just found out that you can't do it if someone has all of their photos in albums, because I just tried it on your page, lol!
But for people who have photos that are not all in albums, like me, here's what you do.
Go to my page, go to my photo section (I have a random slideshow) and click "View All" just below the photo slideshow to the right. A page will open that shows thumbnails of my photos, and on the lower right corner of the page, there will be a place where you can click to be notified any time I add photos.
I disagree. The current activity minus the welcomes and things like that are of great value to me. It's one of the most important functions of the front page to me. The email alerts often really delayed and not therefore of as much value as the latest activity. And even if you're not following something some comment may catch your interest.
I follow almost nothing except the Latest Activity feed.
Double amen to that!
me too
I guess this discussion shows how very different we all are. I can't understand why anyone would be interested if I leave a comment on someone else's page, or even why it's anyone's business, really. I also find that I get email notifications very quickly when a new post is made in a discussion I'm following. I can understand why the administrator would have more need to follow what everyone else is up to.
Oh the comments I don't really care about. Sometimes when I see someone leave a comment on their own page it's a clue that a newbie needs help...but otherwise it's not very useful. You may have noticed the 'Doodler 1 left a comment for Doodler 54" has not been showing up lately ;-)
Nope, haven't noticed that, because I almost never look at the latest activity. Yet, you may have noticed that I rarely miss a thing, lol.
What you're seeing on the left side used to be smack dab in the middle...the only change in it is that's on the left side. It always used to show what has been happening, comments, etc. The system can't distinguish between someone being welcome and someone being left a comment. I'd have to get some voting on eliminating the comments altogether.
