I hope no one thinks I'm being cruel & please note I haven't had to use it often - New Years horn.
We were away with freinds over the holiday break. We rented a home that allowed us to bring the pups. Well we had just came home from a family New Years Eve Party & my friend came in the house & blew the horn, at that moment both pups stop & sat at attention. We all stood there in shock, my husband & I just looked at each other & both thought the same thing, YES maybe this was the answer to their mis-behaving. I have tested it when we got home & it works, it doesn't matter what they are doing wrong if I blow the horn ( I try not to make it really loud) they stop what they are doing & just look at me. I am just letting you all know that if all else fails this might be worth a shot.
It sounds as though it merely gets their attention rather than scares them-- so that's good. I bought an air horn to take to the first romp I hosted and our first doggie pool party ( a local event) -- just in case! Didn't have to use it at all.
I am going to the party store tomorrow! Not that my doodles misbehave that much but they have there times
of craziness! . The clicker training never worked for us. Great Idea!
lol... i usually clap, but that sounds fun!! may be good for in a big field (recall), since i don't own a whistle and Nala thinks her name is Treat when I have to call her back...LOL
I think its a great idea. I also use penny cans, I have also been known to use a riding crop with a big loud popper, hitting the table, wall or whatever when things get too harried with my pack. I am a clicker trainer who believes in positive reinforcement training. But I only bring out the big guns when the 4 of them start doing loud, stupid annoying pack type behavior.
