What do you think would happen if you said something like, "Gibbs, go back to sleep," and then ignored his desire to go out? Maybe he is simply in the habit of going out in the middle of the night, and doesn't understand that you want him to stay in his crate. Doodles are very smart; I bet he'd catch on quickly and your nights would soon be uninterrupted. It might be worth a try.
After the first couple of days of being home, I totally ignored my dogs' vocalizing to go out. I knew that they were healthy and empty, so there was (in my opinion) no need for anyone to be out in the darkness. Okay, Debbie could always try adding, "please," before rolling over and going back to sleep!
LOL
You and Me both!
You are one lucky Lady! My husband definately has selective hearing when it comes to hearing the potty bells. ;) Thankfully, Enzo always went right back to sleep.
Last winter Calla and Luca had a GI thing. We went out a lot, day and night, because you never know. Calla continued to ask to go out by coming up to me and sighing etc., for a few days after I knew that both doodles were fine. So one night I went downstairs with her and put her in her crate. The next day we were back to our usual routine.
