Gibbs will be 5 months old on the 9th of February. We work so he spends time alone during the day in his crate. My husband comes home noonish and lets him out for a potty break and stretch of the legs. Our issues with Gibbs is that he is getting us up between midnight and 2:00 a.m. for a potty break. Gibbs goes to bed around 10:30 - 11:00 and potty's right before bedtime. Last night he went out to potty and then walks around for a while, finds a stick and lays down at 2:00 a.m. to chew a stick. Any suggestions on how to break the going to bed and getting up 2 - 3 hours later for a potty break.

What do you think would happen if you said something like, "Gibbs, go back to sleep," and then ignored his desire to go out? Maybe he is simply in the habit of going out in the middle of the night, and doesn't understand that you want him to stay in his crate.  Doodles are very smart; I bet he'd catch on quickly and your nights would soon be uninterrupted. It might be worth a try.

LOL...I actually did this with Enzo. Of course, I did say" please". ;)

After the first couple of days of being home, I totally ignored my dogs' vocalizing to go out. I knew that they were healthy and empty, so there was (in my opinion) no need for anyone to be out in the darkness. Okay, Debbie could always try adding, "please," before rolling over and going back to sleep!

LOL

I did ask him nicely one night to please be quiet and he wanted to carry on, so I gave him a squirt of water and he really didn't like that. He waited for about 15 minutes and woke us up again whining. They are smart and that's what makes them so much fun.
DH and I were just talking about this as he tells me almost every morning that one or the other dog comes over to him in the middle of the night to go potty. I sleep like the dead I guess, because I NEVER hear them or feel them near my face as he says thats what they do to him.....and what else is weird is whenever DH is away overnight, my two have never woken me to go out or had any accidents. SO, I'm thinking someone at my house is being played for an easy mark. He says they do go potty, but its dark, so Im not really sure about that. if it were me being woken, I would definitely be limiting water and telling them to "Go to sleep"! Mama is not happy when she doesnt get her sleep!

You and Me both!

You are one lucky Lady!  My husband definately has selective hearing when it comes to hearing the potty bells. ;)  Thankfully, Enzo always went right back to sleep.

HA! My husband thinks its mean of me to tell them to lay back down, so he gets to be the nice guy and takes them out......I just keep on sleeping.....SO mean, I know.
I did the same thing, I took 1/2 Benadryl one night and didn't hear a single thing.
Miss Beasley woke me up at 2 every night, I let her do that until she was four months old, I use a lead to let her out so I could bring her right back in, I didn't talk to her but I would still give her a treat, when she was four months she woke up did her little back and I didn't get up or say a word. She woke up two night same thing and has slept all night from then on.... She also gets up every morning at 7:45 u know why? The same reason she goes to bed at 11:15 because she is so darn cute.... She can :)

Last winter Calla and Luca had a GI thing. We went out a lot, day and night, because you never know. Calla continued to ask to go out by coming up to me and sighing etc., for a few days after I knew that both doodles were fine. So one night I went downstairs with her and put her in her crate. The next day we were back to our usual routine.
