Well, Tori vomited twice today and had watery stool, so bad it had blood in it. I feel SO AWFUL!!! Thank you to everyone for their help with what I thought was her pancreatitis acting up again. All this time I thought her problem was due to her food issues. We (all 4 of us) brought her to the animal emergency hospital. They did tests and took an x-ray and said that she swallowed A SCREW!!! I have NO idea at all how she could have POSSIBLY even gotten a screw, much less swallow it! She's NEVER left alone any where where she would have access to one. I feel like a terrible mommy! She's sleeping over night on IV fluids and antibiotic (and treating her for heartworm - as preventative...???). We're PRAYING the screw will move along. It's in her intestines, and eventually come out and she won't need surgery! I'm telling you this dog has had so many issues in her little life! I'm sooooo upset!!! Keep your fingers crossed for us! I'll keep you informed!
I am so sorry. When my son was a baby - not even crawling yet, he swallowed part of a snap that came off his onesie. We had to 'watch' for it, and sure enough it passed and my little guy was fine. I hope you have as much good fortune with your doodle. PS this was also the son who pushed an earring back fastener so far into his ear canal that he had to have outpatient surgery to remove it! This was also the son who...... Some kids and some doods are just like this..... It is NOT your fault.
Hi shelly, Thomas doodle and I wish a speedy recovery and homecoming for Tori. You mentioned that your vet said the screw is about 1 centimetre long!!! That converts to .39 inches whcih is not even 1/4 of an inch long. Is he positive that this is a screw?? That is really teeny for a screw, could it possibly be something else or was he mistaken about the length of this thing? Concerned, Debbie
Forgive me Debbie, but a centimeter is three-eighths of an inch, which is slightly longer than a quarter of an inch...it's between a quarter and a half. :-) A quarter of an inch is .25 inches.
SHE'S HOME!!!! AND FINE!!! YEAH! Whew! That was too close for comfort! The vet called us about 5:30 (EST) and said that the screw had moved along and was in her colon. She said give her a little while more to allow her to pass it. We went to pick her up at 8:00, and she said Tori hadn't pooped yet and probably wouldn't until she went home. (Just like a lady not to want to "go" when not in her own home - LOL) As soon as we got home she went right out to her spot and Voila! After 'digging' ~ we found it! It was actually a small 'screw' from the back of maybe a toy or remote control to a toy, or something like that. Of course we took pictures and I will post it (cleaned up of course) on my page. I can't thank everyone enough for all of their good wishes, prayers, and most of all support! THANKS ADINA to YOU for creating this wonderful world of "Doodle FRIENDS!" Hugs and "Doodle Kisses" everyone! Love Tori and Shelly
I was just catching up and read your post and all of the responses. I'm so glad she's OK. You must be so relieved. How do they always manage to find things that we can barely even see?
