I get my new puppy in thirteen days and I'm trying to pick the perfect name for her!   Did all of you have a name picked out before you got your new puppy?  And if you did, did you keep that name or did you change your mind after living with the puppy for a few days?  Maybe I'm obsessing for nothing - maybe I should just stick with the two names I've picked and hope that the perfect name just comes to me when I hold her for the first time?

Well there is another reason why no one listened to me.  My last dog, PETE, was named after my father.  He had died 4 months prior to Pete coming to stay as a foster.   My son's, who were just little guys, thought naming him after my dead dad would be a good thing.  I didn't think he was staying long and I said okay ( without asking my family their thoughts).

He stayed 14 years!  Everyone got used to the name and they understood it was little kids just being loving but it was really strange. LOL

I had a cat a the time named Gilgamesh and another  named Bruce ( Bruce Springsteen )

So, I am out of the name game around here sometimes. No one trusts me.

That's hilarious!!!  I love the name!!! - especially now!  That is what I mean by waiting till I get home and a different name might come!

BTW-WELCOME.

Name her after music, or the town in WA, or the Boarder patrol agent ( name tag )

Whatever her name, Congratulations  :)

I dearly love Spud's name. It's one of my favorite on DK! He looks like fluffy mashed potatoes but I really like the reason now that I know why he got that name. ;o)

Mitzi's name came to me when we first saw her, she reminded me of Mitzi Gaynor, strawberry blonde and all.

We had a wonderful St. Poodle years ago named Maggie, short to us for "Magnificent".  It is fun, choosing a name for a pup, enjoy and you will certainly make the right choice.

We had a lot of names to choose from for our Pup ,Sgt. Pepper, but it took two or three different choices  before we

settled on his name.  He came to us as Buddy, then we called him Magic, ended up though as Sgt. Pepper (but I

often call him Pepper Pot!

My husband picked Ned's name and while we had some others on our 'list' that were discussed while driving to pick him up, it really was Ned all the way.

Clancy, our rescue, got his name from a 'contest' here on doodlekisses.  Lots of great and silly names were suggested and we experimented with several - he was Hula for a day and a half - before we selected Clancy as the winning name. I do think I will have a Hula one of these days.

I lost that contest. I still think of Clancy as Blarney.  LOL.  See what I mean. No one trusts me.

But kiss that Blarney, I still want to do someday.  Smooch to you Clancy!

But anything was better than BUCK ( which was Clancy's name in the shelter)   I still remember that story and it makes me laugh to this day  LMAO

I do think Clancy kissed the Blarney stone, he is so charming, however Blarney is just too close to Barney for my family who banned purple dinosaurs for the real thing.

I loved Hula thought it was so exotic but Clancy does fit better.

The actual suggestion was Hula Dollar, but I love even that!

Hi Wendy - Just saw your post.  I have never had a girl puppy - but if we were to get a little girl someday, I would want to name her Gabriella (Gabby for short).

I think once you get your little girl and try a few names on her, in a short time you will be able to decide what is just right for her.

Good Luck.
