We had a scare two days ago which resulted in our taking Ditzy Mitzi to the vet for x-rays.  She

had gotten into a pin-cushion from my sewing kit and I was not aware of it until I found the colorful, plastic round tips of some of the straight pins chewed up on the floor next to the partly chewed pincushion!  I would never have considered the pin cushion as something that would appeal to a dog, but in hindsight, it was brightly covered, round and red  and  could have easily been mistaken as a toy.  I looked all over and never found the pin parts, so we took her to in for x-rays.  Thank goodness she did not swallow the pins and she is fine.  The sewing kit is now and will forever be out of her reach!  Oh my, the odd things these dogs get into!

I am laughing at the image of Mr. Rule-Follower dropping imaginary things from his mouth and looking for them :-)

Porter's latest was a to steal a marshmellow-sized gumdrop and its connector toothpicks from my 8-yr-old's construction project. He'd brought it home from school, and we'd stored it up high (I am dying to throw it out). My son brought it down to "adjust some of the structure" a.k.a eat some of it, and left it unattended for a moment. Thankfully, Porter was doing his best to chew around the toothpicks. After I removed them from his beard, I decided to let him keep at the gumdrop since it was mashed between his teeth...and amusing to watch. Sandwiches, though, I pry off the roof of his mouth.
Glad if this served as a reminder. I sew, not often but enough to keep my supplies handy, just have to remember to keep them locked up from now on. Also, Mitzi has in the past, chewed up Capodimonte roses, and her current favorites seem to be chewing on the door frame where she sleeps in the hallway and on the interior brick finished room divider, and she is
definitely too old to be "teething". : ) !
My GD is obsessed with my daughter's socks, I must admit they are rather smelly!! It is a big game to him, but a major pain as he often eats them and then they magically appear a few days later...not looking quite the same. We now have to check the dirty laundry baskets for socks being teased/pulled through the gaps.
This is why we are so hesitant to leave Holly out of her kennel when we're not home. I always think "what if?" She doesn't get into our stuff 90% of the time, but every once in a while when we're not paying attention she'll chew and/or eat something random that she's never been interested in before. How do you know when they're ready to be left out?? I guess when she no longer does this :). So glad Mitzi is well!
