So there I was out in the yard, the kids playing on their swing set, when suddenly what was innocent rough wrestling by Rosco and Boca turned into something that didn't seem right. It got more vicious and I heard yelping...franticness.  It looked like Rosco (i'm guessing) somehow got stuck in his grip on Boca's collar.  Or vice versa, but I think it was Rosco.  In any case it scared the carp outta me because I realized there was nothing I could do to get them apart as I got close.  They were wiggling too fast and I couldn't even tell who or what to grab!  I went to the hose in case a hose down would help them forget the current freak out and then thank God, they broke free.  But the hose did come in handy because the moment they broke free they were still riled up and kinda angry toward each other.  So I aimed their way and they separated to get away from the water.  PHEW!  Rosco had a bloody nose but wouldn't let me get near.  Otherwise they both seemed fine and are friends again.  No lasting damage, but I have Boca's collar off right now--which I'm conflicted about.

You're probably wondering..."CONFLICTED ABOUT WHAT?  KEEP THE DANG COLLAR OFF...DON'T YOU SEE WHAT CAN HAPPEN??"  Yes, yes, I totally get that, but in the 6 years I've had dogs this has never before happened so I can only imagine it may never happen again.  However, the chance of my dog needing to be detained by the collar or the collar needing to be looked at should they ever get loose is far more likely to happen.  Anyway, it was scary!

Adina, I had this happen to Fudge and Vern and it was frightening. Vern got stuck on Fudge's collar and I thought she would die. Thank goodness, both of your dogs are fine. Vern has a tendency to pull Fudge by the collar, so if they are wrestling in the yard, I do take her collar off, but then I try to always put it back on in case she would escape or anything like that. So sorry for your scare!!

P.S. My dogs were not fighting. Vern got stuck on Fudge's collar, but I thought, too, about running for scissors, but my husband ran down and yelled for them to sit and they stopped long enough for the collar to get unstuck.

Rosco has always grabbed the neck/collar area of dogs he wrestles with...since his first night here.  Yet no accidents till now.

My dogs go for that area too. I think maybe they all do.

Vern does it all the time to Fudge. Sometimes, I wish she would let him have it, but it never seems to bother her all that much. When I see it, I immediately take off her collar.

Rosco always is the one who does it.  Neither Thule nor Boca ever did/do it.

I leave Owen's collar on. Owen is the collar grabber, no Kona. So Kona, who would never move out of the back yard without an adult at his side is collarless. Owen, who would run for the hills at the squeak of a squirrel wears one always. Lucky the runner is also the collar grabber or I'd be in real trouble.

It's very scarey Adina.  I've been there too.  And your first thoughts are a knife--or my first thought was a knife.  Stupid of me to want to add a knife to the fight.  Then my cats came running and got into the mix.

But like you, I am conflicted about the collar-no collar issues.  Since I no longer have two dogs it is not much of a problem.  I knew Spud would stay around but Starlit used to bolt if ever given a chance.  Still, every time  Spud is around another dog, that same situation comes into my thoughts.

It is a hard one to call.  Rosco, I hope your cute nose is better real soon

Oh Adina! What a terrifying experience for all of you. I'm grateful that Rosco and Bocca seem to be okay and that you didn't get hurt in the confusion.

Oh Adina, I am so sorry to hear this. What kind(s) of collar(s) were they wearing. I love having collars on because of possible escapes and also to have a handle to grab a doodle. With the cornering and sometimes capturing critters around here a way to grab a dog is vital.

How scary, yikes! Glad nothing serious happened.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I smelled anal glands...it was Rosco.

Must have scared the carp out of him too.
