So there I was out in the yard, the kids playing on their swing set, when suddenly what was innocent rough wrestling by Rosco and Boca turned into something that didn't seem right. It got more vicious and I heard yelping...franticness.  It looked like Rosco (i'm guessing) somehow got stuck in his grip on Boca's collar.  Or vice versa, but I think it was Rosco.  In any case it scared the carp outta me because I realized there was nothing I could do to get them apart as I got close.  They were wiggling too fast and I couldn't even tell who or what to grab!  I went to the hose in case a hose down would help them forget the current freak out and then thank God, they broke free.  But the hose did come in handy because the moment they broke free they were still riled up and kinda angry toward each other.  So I aimed their way and they separated to get away from the water.  PHEW!  Rosco had a bloody nose but wouldn't let me get near.  Otherwise they both seemed fine and are friends again.  No lasting damage, but I have Boca's collar off right now--which I'm conflicted about.

You're probably wondering..."CONFLICTED ABOUT WHAT?  KEEP THE DANG COLLAR OFF...DON'T YOU SEE WHAT CAN HAPPEN??"  Yes, yes, I totally get that, but in the 6 years I've had dogs this has never before happened so I can only imagine it may never happen again.  However, the chance of my dog needing to be detained by the collar or the collar needing to be looked at should they ever get loose is far more likely to happen.  Anyway, it was scary!

You're on a roll tonight, F.  Ha! Ha!

F, LOL...

Did he scare himself into emptying his glands?

I think so.  It was probably Boca gnawing on his nose that did it.  Although now his nose looks fine so she probably wasn't trying too hard or he got lucky.

I have a question; was it the collars or the tags? In our situation, the tag rings got caught on Starlit's gums and tongue.

I honestly don't know.  Couldn't tell.

For us, it was only the collar.

What a scary situation, but good for you and your quick thinking!  I'm not sure what I'd do in a similar situation - but back when I was teaching middle school, I did throw myself between two fighting eighth graders!!  Almost the same thing :)

I think I would tackle the dogs to get them down and see if I could unfasten them. Hard to say until you are in the situation. But what a horror it must be to see and some people have watched a dog die this way.

It is truly terrifying. I heard these god awful sounds first and ran immediately to the dogs and Vern was petrified because he was stuck on the collar and Fudge was thrashing about. I could not get Fudge's collar off it was so tight from all the movement and could not get them unstuck. I really did think Fudge was going to die. Thankfully, my DH heard me screaming and ran down and was much calmer and yelled for them to sit and they stopped thrashing and somehow, miraculously, Vern broke free of the collar. The scariest thing was they both kept looking at me for help and I could not separate them. I thought about putting scissors somewhere out in the yard just in case.

There's no way I would have won the tackle...at least I don't think so.

Glad to hear that everything turned out ok, it must have been truly terrifying at the time. The collar on or off is a tough call when there is any chance of them getting loose, I don't know what the answer would be other than a tatoo but would most people think to even check for that. I don't keep Quincy's collar on inside since he got it stuck on the dishwasher rack, luckily he is not one for running or bolting out the door.
