Murphy is allowed on the couch and the bed! Our rule for the bed was that he could sleep in the bed whenever he was big enough to jump up and down by himself and whenever Beasley (his kitty sister who has slept in bed with me for 9 years) would allow him to. He is so little it actually took him a long time to be able to get in bed with us. I have to say that to be so small he sure is a bed hog though! He is such a good boy...I don't mind him being on the furniture at all. It is harder to clean up after my DH than it is Murphy! LOL!
Why do you think they call it fur-niture, lol?
I am always surpirsed by how many people don't allow dogs on any of the furniture. I'd say 80% of people who apply to adopt DRC dogs say they do not like dogs on the furniture. Some say the bed is okay, but not the other furniture. Others forbid the bed but allow everything else. Some reserve one special chair for the dog. But the majority is opposed to dogs on furniture, and some will only allow non-shedding dogs on the furniture.
JD is allowed on all the furnitiure, although he's only been given living room sofa privileges recently.
To me, part of the joy of having a dog is snuggling with him. I would hate to have to sit on the floor every time I wanted to be close to my dog. The irony of this is that I ended up with a dog who hates to be cuddled. He just likes to be near me, with his head on my lap.
