We had Scout out in the snow yesterday and today.  Snow play with people and dogs and then a snow shoe adventure.  All had fun.  But :-( Scout developed big nasty ice balls on his paws and it seemed painful, caused some bleeding, etc.

How do people deal with this - or better yet - prevent the ice build up on doodle paws?  Thanks.

Non-stick cooking spray is what one of owners of a high end pet store told me.

I bought a set of dog boots.

We just bring him in and dip his paws in warm water. It dissolves them really quickly.

There is a wax-like coating called "Mushers Secret" that I use on Stella's paws. It works great. Check out their website.

tried the non-stick cooking spray this am on the dawnn patrol with Scout.  Seemed to work well, but we weren't out for an hour in the powder, so hard to tell.  We did give him a dip yesterday, but during that walk the ice built up so much that he / we had to remove it as gently as possible in order for him not to limp and regain his spunk and then it would build up again.  We will have to remember to try the cowboy magic or the mushers creme as well.

Its gorgeous up in Truckee/Tahoe this New Years lots of snow has fallen and it stays cold, so the trees hold it for days.  It snowed another 2-3 inches last night at our level.  Love it!  Hate to go home to reality...

We live in that area on the South Shore! Lots of snow this season!
I'm thinking of getting the ruff wear boots for Scooby. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q0U53xVQig Has anyone heard anything about this product? It's funny that the model Sophie looks so much like Scooby LOL!
I have used Pawz boots for my 7month puppy in NYC and they work! Used them in the big blizzard last week and all the other dogs owners were jealous.
Thanks Robbie and Linnea!! I just ordered some Pawz. I figure I would spend $10 at Amazon and try these first before spending $75 on the ruff wear boots!

I had brought some boots for Wilson but he does not like them at all   I soak his paws in warm water when he comes in

that seems to work very well.
