Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ever since I have had my ALD, I have been reading this forum. It is a wonderful place to learn and get information regarding my sweet little guy who is 14 months old. I don't think that any of us wouldn't say that we just love the doodles as well as anybody else that knows or meets them.

I have been reading and staying up on the whole Rutland Manor situation. My guy is from a US breeder who I have respect for and who has always been helpful and is always interested in how her pups are doing. But here is the thing... Augie is directly related to RM Shasta/Grandmother (Shasta's first EARLY litter) and his Mother was bred at RM and sent to the states.

I have been keeping an open mind regarding everything I have been reading - all over - involving Rutland Manor. But I have been also pondering many things in my own mind. Not all these organizations, Baw Baw, neighbors, breeders that have spoken out, a university, and so on and so on,. are in a massive conspiracy out to get Beverly Manners. I feel very much that they want/need to see these unbelievable sweet ALDs rescued from these conditions of which they are living in.

I have read numerous times that people are asking for more 'proof' from these organizations. It seems clear to me that there is an ongoing investigation and they might be under advice or orders to not post all the evidence that they have in their possession RIGHT NOW. Here in the US, whether it is police, sheriff, FBI, IRS or any other departments that have investigations, they do NOT play 'all their cards' until they get their entire case together. I am wondering if this might be the case in Australia too.

In all civilized countries, children and animals are protected. They are the 'innocents' that can't protect themselves. If there is a united ongoing investigation, I am sure that these people and organizations are hopefully or SHOULD be all working together to protect these dogs. I am under the belief, after reading everything I find with a completely open mind, that many people would love to get up on the highest steeple, with the largest megaphone, and yell out all they know right now. I don't believe they can YET!

My greatest worry is regarding my totally loyal and loving Augie. There is nothing that I wouldn't do to protect him in the past, present, and future. But right now, I have NO TRUST, whatsoever, of Rutland Manor's part of the pedigree and health testing of his close relatives. I am very concerned about what might appear in future years and the heartbreak that may come. This is a new breed. I am worried.

But I love these dogs. And I wouldn't hesitate to get another one. But I feel that we all have to hold our breaths concerning any pedigree that is from Rutland Manor or the late Teagan Park for potential health problems in the future. And my hope is that all OTHER breeders of these dogs, with this BEAUTIFUL temperament, keep breeding them all over the world so other families will have the same joy that I have with my guy.

I read your discussion and I personally think you make some good arguments, however, you just joined DK ...How would you know what was posted in the Forum before you joined? Are you Cloaking?
Nobody has to join DK to view forum discussions on DK. There are possibly lots of lurkers who check out discussions and groups and blogs without joining. If you log out and look around you'll see you can see almost everything except for those items (photos, blogs, profile pages) that individual members have chosen to keep private for members or friends.
UR right Adina, ANYONE can come on this website as well as the doodle zoo and other forums and "lurk" and read anything except those items that people wish to keep private, and that is their choice. I have done this. I used to be a reg. on the zoo, but since I am sooooo very addicted to DK, I just go to the zoo off and on and just read some of the postings just to keep up and because, I am nosey.
I agree with Tanya, and also think that anyone that is buying a puppy, of any breed, on the net is taking a risk of getting a puppy mill pup. Unless you are able to personally go to their kennel and see for yourself or get referances from other buyers, how would you ever know. RM/TP is across the ocean for goodness sake, how would we ever know what is truth and what isn't unless there are org. there investigating, which I'm sure there are. The same as with AH. They are not going to come out with all of their evidence until they have all their ducks in a row.
Denise, please do not put someone down for their comments and opinions, just because they are new here on DK. Everyone is intitled to post what they feel & think, the same as you. My friend that rescued Holly from a bad situation posted asking from some advice, per my suggestion, and she received a lot of good input except for one and they had to put her down just because she was going on a vacation that had been planned right after she took Holly in. She has not been on DK since. I felt bad, that is what we are all here for, to help each other out, not to make negative comments and discourage them. AND BTW, my friend went on her vacation, her BIL stayed with Holly for the week and Holly is doing wonderfully. Kudos to Kelli. She took a doodle into her heart and is giving her a fabulous new chance on life.
I didn't put her down at all..I don't feel that I did..I clearly stated...."I read your discussion and I personally think you make some good arguments" I asked a simple question based on the fact that she just joined DK as it was posted in the Forum to Welcome her...and than up pops a Discussion concerning RM which she clearly stated "Ever since I have had my ALD, I have been reading this forum. It is a wonderful place to learn and get information regarding my sweet little guy who is 14 months old. I don't think that any of us wouldn't say that we just love the doodles as well as anybody else that knows or meets them. I have been reading and staying up on the whole Rutland Manor situation." So her comments make me feel as though she is a member under a different name, and I asked if she was? I didn't feel my comments or reasoning was putting anyone down at all. I also never put your friend Kelli down and tried to give her some suggestions concerning her rescue doodle Holly, in fact I believe I was the one who suggested having someone in her family or whom she trusted come stay in her home and take care of Holly there. I also seem to recall some comments made by a few that it was difficult getting a rescue doodle right before you planned a vacation and didn't feel they were out of order either, I took most of it as sympathizing with her that she already planned this vacation, and how hard it would be for both Kelli and Holly. I think it was fantastic that Kelli took Holly and gave her a great home that she wasn't shoved from home to home anymore and so confused that it was pathetic. I am really glad to hear all of this is working out for Kelli and Holly.
It was not you Denise that I was talking about in regards to Holly. You did give Kelli some good advice. I just mean that we all need to give everyone that comes to DK the benefit of a doubt. I just do not like discouraging anyone. This is just my opinion. I didn't sound to me that you were asking if she was a member under a different name. I just hate coming on here and reading all of the bickering that goes on about issues like this. And I know that if I do not like the subject, I should not partake of it, but I would hope that we could watch how we state things and what we say so we do not offend anyone.
Great to hear that Holly is doing great!! Please tell her to come back to DK! We all want to hear what is going on with her!!
On RM web site she mentions DNA testing. Is it possible to have this done on your dog and also have the health screening done on your dog so you will have peace of mind. And if it turns out that your dog is not a ALD as explained by BM and does have underlying genetic links to certain diseases than you can inform others from those lines of your findings.
It seems so sad and sorted. I don't know how we could ever make an informed decision.
Reliability of the DNA testing is not 100% proof your dog is what you think it is or what the test results come back as. There is still a lot of controversy over the DNA testing on dogs.
I don't know anything about the testing although I suggested it if it may help her to feel better about the baby she has now and its future. Do you know alot about it that you could explain?
There is DNA testing that screens for disease....and DNA testing that can link a dog to its parents (though you'd need to know the parents info I believe???). And there's DNA testing that is supposed to help you figure out what breed or breed mix a dog is---it is THIS LAST kind that is not all that reliable YET.
Yes, Adina. Parentage DNA requires the sire, dam and progeny blood/swab for identification. It is accurate. This was done on one RM line that US breeders had questions about and it identified the correct parent. The wrong mom was on the pedigrees. :+(
