Hello!

I need to get pet insurance for my doodle and I have been looking at a few different companies; my vet works closely with 24petwatch so I'm inclined to pick that one but so any of you guys have great/bad or anything in between experiences with that company? Or is there another company you would recommend? Pet insurance is soooo important but I would like a company that is very "user friendly" per say. Any tips/pointer would be amazing!

Thanks so much guys!

Hi... I don't know anything about the insurance that your vet recommended . I personally have used Pet Plan Gold for almost six years. I have many claims that I have made on my boy and they have always, always paid. I know a great deal of members on here also use pet plan but adjust it to the level of care they need.... I needed the most coverage because I didn't at the time have a lot of money to put out should something go wrong.

From what I understand, there are a lot of other insurance companies that have come up that people like....

Good luck in your search!

I was between Healthy Paws and Pet Plan and ultimately chose Pet Plan based on all the glowing DK recommendations

We have Healthy Paws and they were absolutely terrific with Hoka's very expensive claims (ate a squeaker- 2 surgeries= >$10,000).

We pay about $30 month for Hoka. ($250 once a year deductible, 80% of real bills, not on a scale) You can chose coverage level.

They have a really easy to use phone app that I can just take a picture of the bill to submit.   My vet faxes a copy of records.  There is no form to fill out. I usually  end up with approval email same day, receive check in a week's time. I was able to speak to a real person easily on a Saturday afternoon the first time I filed and had a question.

Whatever you choose:

Check to see they pay off actual bill... not their idea of what a procedure should cost.

Check to see they pay for accidents and injuries.

Get the insurance ASAP if it doesn't cover pre-existing, which is usual. Since we started immediately with Hoka, he will never have anything pre-existing.

I agree with Marie. Our Truffle is 17 months old. We've had him insured with Healthy Paws since we brought him home from the breeder. Fortunately, he hasn't had any serious medical issues, but we've had a couple of small claims. One was subsequent to his neuter, a procedure not covered by insurance. He tore open his stitches and had to be sewn up again - the second stitching was almost as expensive as the original neuter procedure! Normally, the policy excludes reimbursement for claims arising out of procedures that aren't covered to begin with. However, after I called to inquire they reversed course and promptly paid the claim. We pay a bit more per month than Marie for Truffle, but we chose a $250 annual deductible and 90% of actual costs.  The other advantage is that there is no annual or lifetime limit on payouts.

Good luck to you!

I use Pet Plan and they've been great. The process is not difficult (as long as the Vet provides the FULL medical documentation). The insurance has more than paid for itself with my Doodles.
