Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
So, I feel like I have been "lucky" with Hunter never needing any real emergency vet care. I don't really worry about preventative care or vaccine expenses, I am very fortunate that my regular vet also volunteers at a low cost clinic once a month and I get her heart worm and vaccine's from here there. She suggested PetPlan and I am reading the past discussions and it seems like the rate is a little higher than I thought. I also put "Doodle" in for the 5% discount and the rate was actually higher than not putting any discount code in. I am getting a quote of $25.13 for the Bronze plan. Hunter is 3 now. Does this sound right to those that have it?

Sounds about right. Also, try to get another quote as a mixed breed. You may have to clear your history, cookies, and cache in your computer but do try. If you pay by the year, the cost is less.
Play with the deductible. That makes a big difference. Then you get a gift card for 25.00.
If you refer someone, they also get a gift card. HINT: for this I know Jennifer, Chloe and Myla has referred and it would be nice if she got a card :)
So it ends up working to about $19.00 a month with the discounts.
Good idea. Whatever the rates--GET THE INSURANCE
I am getting the insurance! I am not taking the chance. I will make sure I use the referral to :-)
I second on playing with the deductible. I put down $100 for the deductible (I think I have either bronze or silver) , then I changed the vet who charges less than the previous vet, but just below $100 every time we go in. I haven't been able to make any claim for an entire year now and all the premium I chose to pay upfront to save money is down the drain. Well, not really, since it still gives peace of mind...
Hey thanks Joanne! I feel relieved since we got it, I'll feel even better when I tell DH LOL! We also payed by the year. I am nervous though that they will deny a claim because it says mixed breed! Just used my card towards a fitbit from Best Buy last night:)
Denise, Here is a discussion I started about the same thing. Hope it helps.

You can also get a 10% discount if your pet is microchipped. Or another 5% discount if your pet is signed up online. So with the "Doodle" discount, you can get a total of 15% discount in total. Look at the tab on the website that says Doggy Discounts under insurance for Dogs and see if you qualify for those.
Something is wrong if the rate is more after you apply the "Doodle" code. Cooper's definitely went down after adding it to his policy. I would start all over. Be careful listing as a mixed breed, when Goldendoodle and Labradoodle are listed. I wanted to do this because Cooper is a mini and they didn't have mini Goldendoodle listed. I called them and was told that I had to list him as a Goldendoodle and if I misrepresented his breed, he may not be covered. I think there are others that have been in the same predicament.
I do know that the rate varies by where you live and the vet costs in the area. It also varies by how old. For us it has gone up every year. We are right now just over 25.00 per dog and our girls just turned 4. I think it was $78.00 a quarter per dog. I don't remember the name of the plan but we have the $200 deductible with 100% pay for accidents or anything that our regular vet handles or an emergency vet but if we go to a specialist then it is at either 70 or 80. I keep forgetting. I would call them and go through the various rates and discounts available. There is an on-line discount. You can always then go back and do it on line if you need that discount.
You right about it varying where you live. There was a significant difference even in my local area. What we're paying for the Gold plan in my area was over $20.00 a month less than if we lived 25 miles north in Washington DC itself.
I just want to say that during Cocoa's last illness, which cost over $2,000 I simply mailed the animal hospital papers and a claim form to PetPlan and within 2 weeks I received a check for $1,700 (total amount less my deductible), no questions asked. I was very impressed. I don't get the impression they are trying to find a loophole to get out of paying.
I had the exact same experience with PetPlan....they covered everything minus the Deductible with no questions asked.
