With all the rain the lawn is overdue to be mowed.  I have been trying to get some pictures of the hummingbirds and decided to carry the camera.  I was getting ready and noticed my two kids were hunting in the grass.  Which around here only means one thing, they're going on a SNAKE HUNT.  Even though I have tried to discourage this, it's been passed down and dogs will be dogs.  If I was not the person experiencing this, I probably would have a hard time believing it.  So today I put on my brave face since they were in the fenced yard and got the camera out.

Allyson this is for you, just kidding!

Apollo on point.

Clovers second hunting lesson (that I'm aware of).

Apollo catches it.

And the playing begins.

Clover joins back in.They notice me.

Now they start heading my way and drops it.

Here's the first toss headed my way.

I can't take it anymore and walk really fast around the side of the house.  Now I have a dead snake in the yard that needs mowed and can't seem to bring myself to do it.

Winter is a very good time to visit.  I keep the woodstove burning and DH has homemade wine to keep you toasty inside and out, lol.

OMD!!!  Ditto, Karen.
Please Dear God, never ever let Daisy seek, find, catch, toss, kill and then carry anything live or dead to me as I will have a heart attack!

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!!  Oh my goodness, these pictures gave me the heebiejeebies!!

Wow, you are brave to even capture this on camera. Good work! Thanks for risking it all LOL!

There is no way I could have made a video.  All you would have heard is a lot of profanity, LOL!

Sometimes I feel sorry for Ginger because she lives in the city...all that concrete...but after seeing this..now I know I want the city.  Ya'll are not freaking out that the snakes are in your backyards?  I would have a "for sale" sign in front of my house in no time!!!

Yes, I do freak out.  I refuse to have my picture taken, but to give you an idea of how much here is how I dress.  Since it is to hot to wear pants, I wear rubber knee boots with my shorts when doing yard work.  There is no way I can wear sandals doing yard work and have tried to wear tennis shoes.  But all I can think of is the possibility of a snake in the yard.  My DH and our friends find this just hilarious.  So much so they decorated a pair of my boots with rubber snake heads on the toes.  It scared me so bad and I screamed so loud when I went to put them on.  Instead of taking the rubber snake heads off I just burned the boots, LOL.
that's funny!
Several years ago I was actually struck by a harmless garter snake while working in the yard.  Fortunately I had on leather work boots and not my usual sandals.  Now when ever I work in a flower border I put the work boots on and don't reach under anything that I can't see under.  By the way, great photos of the action.
Let your DH and friends laugh all they want.  Last month my neighbor was out weed wacking her yard and thought a stick brushed her leg.  She looked down and a snake was wrapped around her ankle.  After much screaming, kicking and total panic the snake bit her (not poisonous, thank God) and she finally shook it off!  If that was me, I would have gone into shock and had a heart attack!  So I will never, ever laugh at someone wearing boots to do yard work.  I go so far as to pay to have a company come and treat my yard to keep snakes out of it and I have them on speed dial to call when I see a snake and they will come and take it away.  I am right there with you on the freak out meter!
That sounds like a good idea... a snake removal contract! Tina, better check into this! EEK
You are a hoot!  I'm assuming that these snakes are not poisonous? We only have two kinds in our area that are, but seeing even the tiny garter snakes gives me the chills.
