My dad used to tell a story from the 1940's about his uncle and aunts poodle, 'Sooty' who would only eat chicken and nothing else. It was known in the family that Sooty was a very picky etear and all her food was hand delivered and cooked to perfection. Until one day Sooty went missing, the whole family searched high and low all around Dublin posters were put up and the news went around that this was a dog who just wouldn't survive long on his own.
Several weeks went by when one day my dad was on the top of a bus when his eyes noticed a black poodle in a lane way in the centre of Dublin. He got off at the next stop. Could it be the missing 'Sooty'. To his delight he found the dog, none the worse for wear. People who lived in the lane said that he had been hanging around for weeks and they were throwing scraps for him. Sooty arrived home to much celebration and never looked back!
For all Porter's Lab-like love of food and my giving him scraps, he can be picky too.
Bananas have to be barely ripe...a tinge of green.
Leftover omelets/fritattas are eaten carefully so as to leave behind every bit of minced onion and diced tomato.
Salami is no, while other processed meats like hot dogs or bologna are a yes.
Chicken meat is good, chicken other stuff is rejected.
A piece of Fromm with ants crawling on it is left in the bowl (yet whole bugs are sometimes consumed).
NO NO NO to carrots, green beans, melon and all that filler stuff other owners are able to feed their husky doodles.
My two will not eat a carrot unless it's peeled or a blueberry unwashed. It's hilarious.
