Jack just fell off my bed, remember he is only 12 pounds, He was trying to get a toy up on the bed like he always does, he fell and hit his leg on my oxygen  tank or his hip, He scream yelped and then cried for a few minutes. Now he won't walk on it. This is the same leg he got attacked on and it was pulled out of socket. He stopped crying, but now he won't walk on it.

Do I take him to the ER Vet, you know I am so fast to do that. I have to go to a very important doctors appointment tomorrow 2 and half hours away. So if he needs to go, I want to go now, plus if he is in pain I want them to fix him.

What do I do? How do I know

So sorry to hear about little Jack.  What ever is wrong they will take care of it.  You were right to take him to the ER and with the pain meds he should calm down.  You need to remain calm for little Jack.  He will sense your fear and that will make him more fearful.  Just talk to him in a calm and soothing voice and give him nice soft pats if they will let you be with him.  There is know way you could have guessed this would happen.  Our Doodles are just like kids and no matter how much we watch out for them, things happen.  We do the best we can and you are now doing that by having him at the ER.  I know it is easier said than done and I would be just like you if it were my baby, but try to stay calm for Jack's sake.  Keep us all posted and we have our fingers and paws crossed that he is just bruised or sprained.  Hugs to you both.
Thank you for reminding me to stay calm you are so right.

I hope Jack is okay. Please keep us posted.

Poor Jack! He will be fine Jennifer...try not to worry too much. You're getting him the attention he needs. Keep us posted please.
Hi Jennifer, Hope this is nothing serious. I really hope little Jack Daniels is ok. I'll keep checking to see how he is doing. I am sneaking on DK at work so I have to be quick. Doodle hugs for you and Jack.

Thank you guys so much.. I wanted to be over reacting like my tendency to do with him is. I am so  glad I brought him. His knee cap was out of socket and it appears like none of his bones are broken, They said it is hard to tell with little guys. She showed me the x ray, their is one questionable spot. She said if he doesn't improve in two weeks they will re  x ray it. His little tiny leg looks like a stuffed sausage.

I now have him back, he is not allowed to bare any weight at all for two weeks. I can put him down to go potty, but he needs to be carried outside to potty, and then carried back inside..I have no idea how someone with a big dog would do that.

He is throwing up all over the place and he is still making crying noises. I am so grateful it isn't anything worse. We just went through this last October when he was attacked by a dog, No weight baring etc.  I slept on the floor with him because he can't climb on anything and I am afraid to bring him to bed with me because I don't want him to jump off bed.

I am going to get stairs for him and teach him to use it.  I wish he would stop throwing up. Normally I am with Jack 24 hours a day, tomorrow, I have a very long day at my hospital that is 2 1/2 hours away. I am going to try to reschedule it but I know that it will take months to get back in and since my health is so crappy right now I don't know what to do.

The vet said I could crate him, which is something he is not used to but that he could not have his pain meds unless someone was here with him. Plus now with him throwing up and stuff, I am not going to put him in a crate.

I will see if some of my dog sitters are available but I don't even think I can leave him...I would bring him with me to the hospital but he can't go in MRI machine areas or anything.

Anyway, thanks for being there for me, It is scary being by yourself and having to make these kind of decisions.

He will be back to his old Jack Daniels self in about two weeks, and if I know him I am going to be holding him down in a few days....

Thank God for health insurance for dogs, the vet bill was outrageous. I asked them what people do when they can't pay since they don't take payment plans and they said they have to surrender the dog, and usually the dog is put to sleep. I CAN"T imagine them doing that. If you are not rich, I can't recommend enough getting pet insurance. This place would not take payments, insurance or anything except up front money before service is rendered.

Thank you again. Jack Daniels is in my arms where he belongs and I am kicking myself for not getting stairs for my bed. That last freaking toy he was bringing on the bed was to big for him to get up by himself...

If anyone has any good ideas of what I can do to keep him contained off furniture, off his feet and not walking other then keeping him in a crate, please let me know.

I love that you guys are here when a dog mom goes into crisis.

OMD, I'm so sorry for both of you.  Here's hoping you can get a pet sitter so you don't have to cancel your hospital appointment.  Please don't feel guilty...this could happen to anyone.  I have to use the stairs for Guinness to get on the bed...but he always jumps off himself, and that worries me because he's a little guy.  For the next two weeks if you don't want to use a crate, you may have to tether him.  Please keep us posted...all fingers and paws are crossed here for a quick recovery.
Boy no wonder he was in pain if he dislocated his patella (knee cap) Poor little guy, that had to have hurt!
When our Springer had CCL surgery we put him in an ex-pen to keep him confined but not in a crate.  we put a soft rug and a patio chair cover on the floor too. When we took him out of the pen, we leashed him right by us.
Accidents do happen. I hope all turns out well.

Jake, foster doodle, "Catch" and I are sending prayers and good wishes for you and Jack!

Jennifer...he is probably throwing up because of the pain medication.  It is not agreeing with his tummy or he took it on an empty stomach or something.  Also crying more so because he is scared if he is medicated.  Why don't you see if you can get one of your pet sitters to come with you to your doctor's appointment.  They an watch Jack while you are in the MRI and when you are not and just waiting around you can be with him.  They can carry him around and sit on a grassy area if you can find one with him on a leash but laying down.  That way too if he is sick he can do it on the lawn.  Too bad you live so far away.  I would help if I could.  If you have dog sitters then I'm sure they would be willing to do this for you without hesitation.  You really should keep your appointment and not let your health suffer.  Jack needs you.  Glad to hear his knee cap was just out of socket.  Let us know how tomorrow goes.
