In our golfing community you can't really do ANYTHING to your house or yard without getting approval from the powers that be.  So I had a fence company come over and do up a proposal to install an area across the back of our screened lani that would give Rooney a place to play outside without me having to worry about him dashing away from me or from a alligator lurking at the edge of the lake.  Don't worry - I would not be leaving him there unattended.  I then found out that I couldn't have a fence if there isn't a 20ft setback from the lake - which I am short of.  Major bummer.  I figure that if I can't find a way to get a fenced area - Rooney won't be able to get a sister - I would just not feel that I could keep two puppies safe.  So here is what I did.  I called the guy in charge and just layed on the sad story of how worried I am about my poor puppy with traffic/gators and would he pleeeeeez just come look at my yard to see if anything could work.  Whine, sniff.  He just left and he is going to try to get us a varience!!!   I should be ashamed of  groveling but if it works it will be worth it, so please cross your paws that we can get a fence!

Hey Jane...go ahead and put a fence up and then see how quickly the "fence police" move!!!!  ha ha

Good Morning Jane,

It is early and I just had another crazy idea!  Are there rules against flower pots?  If they deny you the fence, and it seems as if they are dragging their heels probably  hoping you will change your mind,  why not get enough large planters to enclose the area.  LOL!  I can just visualize a lovely line of beautiful plants, maybe gardenias or hibiscus, and most Floridians love them too.  After all, Florida means land of flowers, or at least the original name meant that!

Great idea Sally.  Jane could take it one step further and once the planter boxes are all line up nicely she could put a little fencing around the INSIDE of the planter line. She can buy those that you just push into the ground.  We had them all around my plants when Gracie was a baby so she wouldn't smash them.  Even an X-pen or two straightened out would work.  She just wants the planters to be tall enough so that Rooney can't jump over them and through the hedges.  He is such a little guy I just can't imagine him jumping over but to be safe, put the fencing on the inside.  This way nothing is permanent and can be removed if they get nasty.

I was also remembering seeing in magazines where a clay pot is placed unside down with another pot on

top which would make it taller if needed.  Thanks Nancy, its nice to know my ideas are not all that "crazy".

LOL  !

I almost forgot, when we put in our six foot fence around our backyard, the city code required a

hedge to be planted on the outside for beautification purposes.  So having the plants would be a head start!

excellent!   as a former zoning/codes officer, I would have trouble enforcing a fence rule when indeed it is not a fence!!  A tip, find out what is the exact wording/definition of a fence.  :)
Cool...with all this great advice, Little Rooney will have his shrub/fence for sure!!!!

Hi Jane...

I hope things are moving along in a positive way regarding putting up the fence for Rooney...

I just love all of the ideas that keep pouring in!

Sally's idea about the clay pots can be really pretty...while solving the problem...and the hedge sounds like it could work also.

Leave it to Nancie to come up with a way to possibly get a fence in there too!  Lol...

What I see here ladies is this...

"Where There's A Will (or a Doodle)...There's A Way"!!

P.S.

Sasha sends Great Big Hugs to her friend Rooney...

Dear doodle - you ladies are all so SMART!  Wonderful ideas each and every one!  So now if the fence police say no - I have other options.  You guys are the best!!!!!  Watch for adorable Doodle Day photos later today.
