This is HONEY!   Isn't she beautiful

To help you understand what she is up against watch this short video.   Honey is just a puppy with two torn ACLS  in her knees.  Her first family just could not afford to have an $8,000 surgery to correct her medical problems.

The thing is, she will be just fine and live a happy normal life is she can have the surgeries on her knees.

Honey is a gorgeous and sweet 8-month-old Goldendoodle puppy with 2 torn and ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments ("ACLs.") Honey's owner had posted a desperate plea here on Doodle Kisses a few weeks ago when her husband refused to pay for surgery to repair Honey's injuries. It was a last attempt to find Honey a new home with someone willing to pay for her surgery before opting for the unthinkable alternative.

Thankfully, all of you here on DK directed Honey's owner to DRC and we spent the last few weeks making arrangements with her owner to get Honey into foster care and into the DRC program.

Well...........We have great news. Thanks to all of our friends here at DK and the efforts of many, sweet Honey is now safe in foster care in Ohio and is scheduled for surgery next week to repair her ACLs!

HONEY'S STORY

Honey's family adopted her through an ad on Craigslist and was completely unaware that Honey had already torn one ACL from rough play with another dog when they adopted her. This was confirmed by a visit to the vet a few days later. The vet warned the family that should they not repair the injury with surgery, Honey had a very high probability of injuring or tearing her other ACL. Shortly after the confirmation of her first injury, Honey did end up tearing her other ACL.

When her family decided they didn't want to pay the nearly $8000 in surgery costs to repair Honey’s injuries, they were instead considering senselessly euthanizing an otherwise perfectly healthy, wonderful and beautiful puppy.

UPDATE

Yesterday, Honey was flown from her home in Seattle, WA to her wonderful foster mom DRC and DK's own Sheri Clement in Ohio.

Our amazing vet, Dr. Rachel of Animal Medical Center In Indianapolis, IN will perform the surgery to repair Honey's ACLs next week. Because of the severity of Honey's injuries, (as you can see in the video) Dr. Rachel will be repairing BOTH ACLs at the same time.

Dr. Rachel has generously offered to perform the surgery on both ACLs for less than the normal cost of ONE surgery

And Honey's prognosis after surgery?............ EXCELLENT!

THANK YOU DR. RACHEL & ANIMAL MEDICAL CENTER!

AND THANK YOU SHERI!

Sheri is special.

One of our very own, Lucy and Sophie's Mom, who recently lost her beautiful 5 year old girl, a therapy dog who helped many,  to Cancer just last month, has offered to take on the care of this girl for the next 5 months of rehab.  If she can do this, we need to help Sheri.  Bless HER.  Thank you, Sheri.

Sheri felt so helpless when all her faithful efforts to save her Sophie did not work.  She passed away.

" I could not help Sophie, but I can help this puppy"

So she will be taking on months and months of care for this  surgery and rehab.

If she can do this, we can give... just a little too.

These donations are in memory of Sophie.  Sophie will help Honey

Honey will be recovering with Sheri and her husband in Ohio post surgery and will be ready for her new forever home sometime in late August.

It's thanks to our wonderful veterinary partners like Dr. Rachel, our amazing volunteers, friends and supporters like our DK family, that DRC is able to help doodles with special needs like Honey, Harper, Gentry and others who may not have been given a chance without our "collective" help.

DRC has set up a fund to cover part of the expense of Honey's pending surgeries and rehabilitation. If you would like to make a contribution to the DRC "Honey Pot" please click on the link below. Donations to DRC are tax deductible and all monies raised will go directly towards Honey's surgery, rehabilitation and post operative care.

Great!  I wanted to make a donation but will not give out my credit card number here.  It says you do not need a PayPal account, but I PREFER to pay with PayPal.  How do I do that?  Thanks, Joanne, for doing this.

Hi Lynda,
I used PayPal. You can use a variety of Credit Cards, but I had money in my PayPal so this was the method I used.
Thank you, Lynda

But how did you do that?  I received another message to go to the DRC website, click the donate button, and in the note section put in "For Honey's surgery", but no link here at DK.

GOT IT!  I just went to the photos at the bottom of the DK main page, clicked on the website and it was very easy to do.

Sometimes it takes me a while, Joanne, but I am teachable (just old).

There are so many times I am not able to give.  I live a simple life, with children in college, down-graded jobs... well we all know how life is now and we all have our circumstances
So, I truly understand we pick and choose what and when we can help.  We can't do it all and we can't do it alone.

I picked this battle, but others I was not   able to participate in.  When I can't use monetary resources, I have fostered (retired), or offered support, or even just responded to those looking for help in discussions.  We all give in many ways. It's just how we are here.
For all who have given in the past, when I was not able to help,  Thank you too.

Oh my goodness!!! Joanne you're the best for reposting this!!! Wow Honey is almost at her goal!!!! I love DK!!! I love being a part of this network of fellow doodlers, supporters, friends!!!

WOW...only 130 dollars away from the goal for Honey!!!  AWESOME!!!

Done. Wishing Honey a very smooth and as quick (as possible) recovery. How wonderful of Sheri to open her home to this sweet doodle too!

I just went back and revisited the discussion that started all of this. I am so happy that Honey's family reached out to DRC. The discussion got a little heated at times but I'm happy to say that those of us who were the most vocal were talking from the heart and opened their wallets as promised. LOL, we really do hold true to the expression "Put your money where your mouth is". I love you guys. :>))

Well stated, Donna!  I see the post is on FB, too.  So close to the goal!

That one was too painful for me to participate in....  < laugh because I really am too vocal and my mother always warned me>

I really felt for this family and I understood.  I wish them peace as this must have been so hard.

I was lucky enough to be a member here and realize that insurance was a must for us as I would never want to be faced with this situation.  I know, I am lucky and many others do not have the opportunity or the knowledge, yet, to purchase insurance or be faced with this situation.

We love you too, Donna!  We really do

We did it!   WE DID IT!

Congratulations!  DK is truly amazing:)
