My old chow chow Butter's health has been declining over the summer. ( 16 & 1/2 years old) I felt like he was waiting for one of my daughters to come home from her summer job in Ohio. She came home on 8/25, and we took him to the vet. Since then, he perked back up, ate turkey and rice like a champ, went outside and was happy again. My daughter left back for college late sunday afternoon, happy to see him doing well again. Monday evening, he brought back all of his dinner, and since then, he is going back down. He woke up early this morning moaning and has been lethergic all morning. We are taking him back to see Dr. Sweeney this afternoon, but the sun may be setting. I am so sad.
He has been with us all these years and I feel like he helped me with my kids, and protected us. They were all little kids then... He is such a strong dog, with pride and dignity.

I'm so sorry.
My family dog is 18.5 and still living with my parents - she has been our dog since I was 9 years old... I don't remember a time when she wasn't a part of the family.
I'm sure Butter is wagging from wherever he is, thankful for the years he spent with you. I'm glad you had some nice times with him and your daughter before he passed.
Oh Kyoko,
I'm so sorry. We went through this with Cass last spring. It's so tough to do. But just know that you are doing the right thing. Remember all the wonderful years and let him go peacefully.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. (I tear up even now thinking of our dear departed dogs - what a joy they were!)

I cannot begin to thank you all for your support. All of my children quickly got home to grief together. We gather around him, each one of us said something about him, burned special Japanese incent for him, we got him a king's crown.
Charlie does not seem to have a clue to what happened to him.
We are going to celebrate his beautiful long life.....
I thank you so much DK friends..... It really meant a lot for us.
I am so extremely sorry for your families loss or your beloved Butler.... I am sure that crossing over in your son's arms brought so much peace to Butler....
It makes me wonder about dogs, how he waited for your daughter to come home... I wish we could know the minds of them and what they are thinking.. They are the most loyal living things that I have ever come across in my life.
Often times they say people are the extension of God's love and while I believe they can be, when you look at the loyalty of a dog and their never ending faithfulness, I say they are more like God's love then anything....
I know without a doubt Butler had a great life living with you. I hope that brings you comfort. I pray all the fun and loving memories you have of him bring you laughter and joy.
You are in my prayers and on my heart,
Jennifer
